Proposition: Faith is accepting something without proof.

Proposition: Proof must be grounded in logic.

Proposition: Any proof that uses the subject of the proof itself as part of the proof is tautological and therefore invalid.

Conclusion: The efficacy of logic cannot be proved, as logic would be required to prove it.

Conclusion: Belief that logic works is faith.

Just a couple of side notes: I'm using "proof" here in its strictest sense. I'm a mathematician by training, after all. Evidence - even a great deal of evidence - is all well and good, but does not constitute proof. I'm a great believer in logic myself - I simply don't think there's any way to prove, in the strictest sense, that logic works. To my mind, that makes it faith. I believe, therefore, that atheism is not a lack of faith. Atheists simply choose to put their faith elsewhere than God.

So first give (in as much length as you want) reasons why you believe as you do, and then second, if someone wanted to enter your religion, what core teachings should they accept presuming they would accept them?

I know that Jainism believes in no God. It has a belief that the world always existed, and always will. But we do have 24 tirthankaras (like gurus) we follow the teachings of. Some however, accept them as God. So are the religions atheist? Does following either still make athiests feel that we are being irrational to follow their teachings?

Most people realize that there is only true God. Throughout history, this one ture God has appointed many good men to tell others about Him so that humans eveywhere may turn away from false gods and worship Him alone. Abraham, Moses and Jesus (peace to be upon them) all spoke about this one God and worshipped Him alone.

In the Gospel According to Matthews, 26:39 (King James Version) we are told that Jesus \\\'fell on his face and prayed\\\' to God. And in the Gospel According to John, 17:3, Jesus declares that the one he prayed to is the only true God. This very God speaks to us in these last days in His final Scripture which He will safeguard from corruption. God announces in His book good news to all those who believe in Him and do right. He says:“ Surely those who say: Our Lord is Allah and afterwards are upright, the angels descend upon them, saying: Fear not nor grieve, but hear good tidings of the Paradise which you are promised. We are your protecting friends in the life of the world and in the Hereafter. There you will have (all) that your souls desire, and there you will have (all) for which you ask. A gift of welcome from the Forgiving, the Merciful” (Quran 47:2). “ Those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from you Lord - He rids them of their ill - deeds and improves their condition. That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord” (Quran 47:2).

Accept this invitation, therefore, and enjoy a life of peace and satisfaction on earth, then everlasting life in the paradise of God. The true Scripture promises all this to those who choose no other god except the One True God who was worshipped by Abraham, Moses, Jesus and Muhammad (peace be upon them). The truth has now come to you from your Lord!

Wont you accept it?

I read this in an answer to another question, but the writer did not site the verse...may someone else can.

"You cannot bring proofs from the "Old Testament" and the "New Testament" the "New Testament" is made up! Want proof? It says in the Bible (Old Testament) "There shall never be a new bible in front of the L-rd" (or something to that affect, the Hebrew words are "lo tihei torah acheres mayaeys haborei yisborach shimo")"

---Rachel D

But I have one small problem, even if it is in the old testament, that would mean the true bible stops right there. at that verse, or has already stopped.

What gives?

Have you ever had the experience of being scolded, and told you don't know what you are talking about? And the justification the person used for scolding you, is what you yourself taught them?
I just did!

The theory that God being all-knowing, doesn't bother to prove Himself to an atheist because all the possibilities wouldn't lead the atheist to believe in Him.

Someone said if he appeared in public in front of everyone, then they will believe.

But, the problem with that is the human race will ask for more divine intervention up to the point they will be totally dependant on God.

And someone said "If God is all knowing, don't He know how to prove himself before an Atheist?"

What I think is that.....the burden of proving there is a way to convince an atheist God exists doesn't rely on theists, but atheists themselves. Because I once asked what proof exactly do atheists want, and they do not know themselves.

Opinion?

Ive got myself a bargain off Ebay. A New International version for only 50p, and like new. I can keep it to hand when im on here. I noticed however that people were more interested in the King James versions, yet the New International seems easier to understand without all that oldy worldy type of text.
