Good tends to triumph because when the forces of Goodness are ahead, we stop telling the story.

You need to stop washing so many disney movies. There are plenty of sad endings. As a matter of fact life is about sad endings. Just look around you. Now, is this evil? No, is just the way things are. The reason movies and books portray happy ending is because in life happy endings are rare. They are supposed to be an escape from reality not a reminder.

Only God is Good, without God evil may not be defeated.

The Israelites did not obey the command of the Lord and for that reason did not enter the Promised Land until 40 years later.

Numbers 14
44But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp. 45Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

hmmmm, Not all bible stories even have happy endings.

But I'm with you on stories in general. I love a good tragedy. Watch the musical Miss Saigon or buy that soundtrack sometime. the musicals Chess and Phantom aren't all that cheery in the end either. Musical or book Les Miserables - has tragedy intermingled throughout. One of my all time favorites.

Fortunately for us, our God is Good.

ALthough, in the short term, things can indeed LOOK very bad indeed! You have to look at if from the point of eternity future to get the whole truth.

As for stories, that's just a Western tradition. Japanese stories have no problem ending horribly.

In real life, this is not the case. Not even in all forms of literature does good always triumph over evil, as has been proven in various tragedies.

in life, evil often wins. look at the Crusades, the Inquisition, all the various acts of genocide.

in movies, it's because Hollywood movies are so expensive to make they need a high return rate, and test audiences clearly show that the US public prefers happy endings.
