Ancient Greek myths include a story about a hero named Orpheus, the offspring of the god Apollo, who descends into the underworld to defeat death. Although the story has many differences, the basic similarity can not be denied. A "cult" sprung up in following of this myth, which taught that a strict moral code -- including abstinence from sex and to avoid wearing wool -- would result in eternal blessedness.

Do you think that the story of Jesus Christ has its basis somewhere in this early myth? Or is it all just a coincidence?

The Maya charted the skies down to a calender of a little over 5000 years. History tells us that they were genius' in the field of astronomy and charting the movement of the stars. They have predicted the end of a the current "phase" to be december 2012.

Relative to the many prophecies made by various religions (including Christianity) and psychics/foretellers such as Nostradamus and Edgar Cayce which point to this era as one of significant change, do you think the Maya could indeed be accurate, and some sort of occurance will take place - whether it be a major war, religious changes or shift in spiritual consciousness?

This isn't meant to stereotype or offend anyone, I know you cant judge an entire group by the action of a few, this is only based on the majority that I have encountered.

I love discussing religion, I love to listen to others ideas. I have the problem that most people I know only get offended when presented with ideas different than their own. Most everyone around here is christian so I am not around many other religions. Most of the christians (not all mind you, but 90% of them) I know get mad and start quoting scripture when you ask "why" or ask them to explain themselves. Their answer to most questions is "well the bible says so in romans 15,.....". I know in this country we are taught to memorize and regurgitate from the time we start public school, but can't people think for themselves and draw their own conclusions from the facts presented to them? I have no problem with someone believing whatever they want but I do think they should know why they beleive it.

Anyway I am rambling. So my question is, is this common in other religions? Do they get defensive when you question their beleifs, and can they answer your questions without opening a book and reading scripture? Is it universaly a human trait or is it taught more in christian churches?

or it's only the born again Christianity ?
"you are in light , others are in dark , you are unique others are morons, you are special others are dumb."

This is the way every cult religions act's to isolate their followers apart from the rest of the world , and brainwash them step by step.

The pastor will hug the follower and " I'm happy you have come " you are in light - they are in dark ?

Why the christian / Islam followers think - they are unique and the outside world is moron. they are gifted . .? out side world is evil and scary place :-) and everything is written in their dumb books?

why the pastor puppets act like dumb brainless house parrots " we are the champians , christian is the best , read the bible, listen to god, god is great , he will forgive you , Allah is the only way. Read the quran, Quran said it all, " why they cant use the kidney to understand the f#$%&^king world?

Or shall I say the tribulation. I have not idea how it is all going to play out, but if the tribulation happens after a major warm when do you think thinks will escalate into a huge war in the world? With the middle east on the rink of boiling point, Russia now involved in the peace process for the middle east, Iran and their nuclear weapons, India want to test their missiles, China expanding their armies, North Korea have got nuclear weapons, Egypt wants now to develop weapons, I believe the world is on the verge of world war 3 and I believe it could be within 10-15 years. Then the tribulation will not be too far away because a world leader will probablly come out in the caos of all of this and make peace with Israel and many countries. If that is the case then the return of Christ is not too far away. But I believe before the tribulation their has to be a huge major war throughout the planet. And that is is not the making as we speak. There are very exiting times we live in.

Muslims believe that people of the book (Christians and Jews) dont go to hell, but have the chance to learn islam in the hereafter

Buddhism maintains no general specifications of heaven nor hell

So why is that Christians have this arrogance that THEY are 100% right and everyone else will suffer eternally for being "wrong"?

What would be some "stand alone" qualities? (read on)?
Not much luck in the philosophy section...This may confuse many but letmme try.....
Imagining someone was all alone on a distant planet......

love----not a "stand alone" quality because "what would I love if there is nothing to love?

thought-- not stand alone because what would i think about if there is nothing to think about?

humanity-- A Stand alone quality---because i am still human wheater or not you exist

God-- a "stand alone" quality because by defintion, god is god weather or not we exist.

What chacteristics in and of themselves are able to exist apart from humans? Which one of them cant? These are examples can you come up with more?

Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Joh 6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.

NOTE VERSE 52 How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

Clearly they took what he said litteraly!
