No, I haven't noticed the discrepancy. I don't really understand it at all.

P.S. Even though I don't understand what you are pointing out, don't you think that the Lord's name should always be capitalized? Isn't it disrespectful not to?

The Day of the Lord is Judgment Day when Jesus returns to this universe to judge mankind for their sins and to bring his believers into heaven. The heavens and earth will disappear because it is the end of time and this corrupted universe of sin must be destroyed.
In my studies of the scripture the 1000 year reign of is not talking about an eventual coming of Jesus where he will reign on earth for a literal 1000 years. The 1000 year reign of Christ is taking place right now and is a reference to the entire New Testament period. Here is the key phrase:

Revelation 20:5-6 "But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years."

The first resurrection is the resurrection of our souls, the second resurrection is the resurrection of our bodies. Those who become saved experience the first resurrection and the second death has no power over them. The first death is physical death, the second death is eternal death. If after we become saved we reign with Christ 1000 years then it means that this does not refer to a future literal 1000 year reign.

Revelation 20:7-9 "Now when the thousand years have expired, Satan will be released from his prison and will go out to deceive the nations which are in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle, whose number is as the sand of the sea. "

Near the end of time Satan will be released to decieve the world and in particular the church since that is his main battleground.
We read in Thessalonians that a great apostasy is coming and a falling away from Christ. That is a reference to this time that Satan will be loosed. Also we read in Matthew 24 when the apostles ask what the sign of his second coming is and Jesus replies "“Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many."

The great tribulation will be the time that Satan and his demons will be loosed to deceive the world. That will be after the thousand years have expired.

I think many would say that this is talking about the destruction of the world after tribulation. You have to remember what happens in Revelation - there's plagues, floods, fire balls from the sky, massive earthquakes, etc. The world at that time will be destroyed according to Christianity. This would probably be, for Christians, what this verse is talking about. The complete and utter destruction of the world as we know it.

Then the world is remade by God and Jesus reigns over it. Christians believe that death and illness and sin are no more. In order to do this, the world would be different then before - hence the destruction of the old one to make way for the new eternal earth.
