Because he's god, man, yo! He's allowed to kill as many people as he wants and have those people kill as many lambs as they want (it's preferable over fruit, you know, fruit doesn't bleed or feel fear. No use offering gifts to him without a bit of A-grade slaughter involved) because he said so (apparently). Like, DUH! Coz there's this book that was written, like, yeeeeears ago by a bunch of people who actually weren't god and they were like, OMG, you must do this and that and this because god said so (because they like, must have had direct phone lines or god's e-mail addy or schizophrenia or something to talk to him, hey?)

And I mean, like, even the Bible says that like this dude called Adam and this chick called Eve were like, good, before they ate the forbidden fruit and could then experience both good and evil. And this like snake (LOL! Not a phallic metaphor, I sweeear!) told them that they would be like god if they ate it, and, um, that means bad and stuff as well as good.

And like, this one time, at Christmas, this chick called Mary who god had knocked up (without her permission. Like, ewww! That's rape!) gave birth and that was god's son and god was like, sooooo generous to the world that he later let his own son be tortured and killed. OMG! God is sooooo selfless! He looooves us soooo much!

And like, god made everyone and stuff and gave us free will, but still wants us to believe in him and if we don't we go to hell. Like, he didn't make so that we would automatically believe in him and like, automatically go to heaven, he gave us choice, and if we choose wrong we get eternity burning (LOL! Like that Bangles song, ummm, Eternal Flame? LOL!) but like, he KNEW some people whould choose not to believe in him, but he still made them anyway, JUST so they could go to h-e-l-l!!! He is like, soooo sadistic!

And he's like, "Do not worship any other god than me!" even though, like, according to him, there is no other god, and like, he said he's a jealous god and all that, but, um, jealousy is from insecurity and like, if I was omnipotent and omnipresent and the only god in existence I would be sooooo confident. OMG! God, like, you have to believe in yourself! Otherwise how are we ever going to be able to? Like, a bad childhood is no excuse! I'm sure there are some good therapists up there in heaven you could talk to!

What about the senseless brutality done by The State over the centuries -- especially atheist communist ones?

Are the "incredible acts of senseless brutality" in the Bible really your big concern -- or is it just an excuse to attack a religion that teaches things that you just don't want to hear?

Because I don't see you on here complaining about the "incredible acts of brutality" committed by Lenin, or Stalin, or Mao, or Castro, or any of the other commies out there.

That's probably because the commies don't advise you to do things like abstain from sex till marriage -- so you have no reason to denigrate them.

Would you do a better job than God if you were in His place?
Well sorry you're not, thats why you will never understand the things He does.

As for the use of the words senseless brutality, thats the way you want to define it . You can as well call a judge that sentences a murderer to death as being senselessly brutal. The Bible calls the acts of God just and righteous.

What do you advise, "while will religious human beings understand this"? between the biggest assaults Christians face is the atrocity that grow to be dedicated for the duration of the dark a while. those atrocities are nevertheless used to undermine the concepts of Christianity. Christians understand that it relatively is rubbish and those atrocities (call the atrocities and the religion, there are no longer any exceptions) are performed, purely as you have mentioned, via evil adult men or via people who have been forced into positions the place there have been no alternatives. it style of feels that there'll consistently be people who will locate excuses to commit atrocities and removing religions from the checklist of excuses won't provide up those atrocities from happening. i think of a greater powerful-based question would be "while will human beings understand this" quite than "while will religious human beings understand this".

What brutal acts, exactly, are you talking about? At first glance, they seem horrible. For example, the destruction of the Caananites. But then you find out that the Caananites used to fight, steal, and murder the Israelites, and they also sacrificed their children in the fire to false gods.Do you still think that God should have let the Caananites continue in their wicked, dangerous ways?Or in that case,do you think that a battle would have been justified, considering the reputation and habits of the group?

Fisrt of all ,who are we to judge God,,and in addition what senseless acts are u talking about. In the bible God is love and he said that and showed us too.And rememeber that we do not deserve anything good from God he only do it because he loves us ,although what we reaaly deserves according to justice is those senseless acts you are talking about.
In flood of noah god showed us that he did not want this to happen but that was the justice but still he made a covenant that he will never drown people again
And the most important is that he gave us salvation through Jesus christ but executing justice in him,and mercy to us so what else do u want?

Perception is selective, what you believe to be senseless may make perfect sense to someone else. It's my understanding that Arab suicide bombers can exchange a life of miserable strife and degradation for a harem of forty willing virgins for the seemingly senseless act of committing blatant atrocities against humanity. But then again...were talking forty virgins...and that's like thirty-seven/thirty-eight more then most of us will ever see.

your a lot like me. a nonbeliever who one day decided to see what this crazy book is all about. and your right its ******* crazy. it seems that all god whats is senseless killings and mass genocide. you know kill the gay, kill the nonbeliever, it never ends. the entire book is crazy. now, for the people who believe in this book. you have to understand that these people have been told this since there were born. a lifetime of god is perfect. they are in fact brainwashed into this belief. think of it like this if you are told your entire life that all coins are made of gold. how likely are you to belief that coin can be made from copper or nickle. and there is also an entire culture telling you all coins are made of gold. ******* crazy. you need to read the god delusion by Richard dawkins

The better question is why do you care?

If its a fictional story then there are far more gruesome ones out there.

I suggest something from Steven King.

When bad things happen, it's always for a greater good. Always!

"God allows evils to happen in order to bring a greater good therefrom; hence it is written (Romans 5:20): 'Where sin abounded, grace did more abound.'" (see the link below)
