You say that rigid Christians dumb down life by following a book. What patterns are you guilty of following? Honestly, how do you oversimplify your decision-making process?

I was raised in the christian church and have since left to follow my own path. The thing that made me leave the church was the hipocracy and intollerance.

Love your fellow man, as long as he isn't gay, jewish, muslim, eats meat on Friday, eats meat at all, is tattooed or dresses like a woman. Who cares, good people are good people regardless of what the eat, what they wear, who they worship, or who they sleep with.

I thought the message was supposed to be Love your fellow man. No exceptions.

Many of things that people do in the name of religion are reprehensible.

Is it that rare for somebody to have actually read the entire Bible. I have not met 1 Christian in person, not 1, who has read the entire Bible. I have met a few atheists and a Muslim who have read it and I have met a lot more Christians than atheists and Muslims together.

Seriously, how does his dying have anything whatsoever to do with absolving my sins? Also, if God is the Father, Son and Spirit, how could he have "given" his only son, how is that a sacrifice, since Jesus is still with God in Heaven? Thanks for serious replies.

Some of us are here to try and learn, some of us are here to antagonize, most are here for both. My question to you is this: If you already know MOST of the bible and what it means, Why are YOU here? Dont tell me its for fun and fellowship. Are you here to "save" us from ourselves? Do you think this is YOUR job? Do you think Jesus will love you more? Do you think you will get a better room in the Heaven Hilton? I think YOU are just as lost and curious as we.

Do they take it seriously.? Many Christians do not ...for examples swearing on a Bible in court of law, swearing to uphold the Constition...? I heard recently that a muslim person requested to swear on a Koran rather than on a Bible and I thought to myself ... something isn't right.... But I say unto you, Swear not at all: .....(Matthew 5:34-37

The actor, who is a devout follower of the bizarre sci-fi cult, has been hailed by leaders of the faith as the "chosen one" who will spread the word of the religion.

High-ranking Scientologist David Miscavige is convinced in years to come Cruise, 44, will be worshipped like Jesus all over the world as he becomes a prophet for the religion.

My religion is Methodist, My boyfriend was raised Southern Baptists and his 9 yr old daughter has not been informed enough to choose a religion, other than christianity.
None of us our baptisied, My family believed it was my choice to ask for it when I was ready and know at 34 I am.
We all want to be baptisied together, working on the details of that
due to the two different practices.
My concern is his daughter, she lives with us every other year and
she attends a baptist church with her girlfriend and family. Her mother lives out of state and there is NO conduct with her unless it envolves picking up the child or a court date. She does speak to
her mom weekly on the phone, though. Anyway's my question is
do you think the mom should be envolved in the decision of baptisim and choosing the faith? This is a pretty hostel relationship anyways with the father and mother, but I personally don't want to affend her. She doesnot attend church (as far as I know).

And how do you distinguish self-righteous service from true other-centered service?

NOTE:
Jesus made it clear that servant-hood is an integral part of the Christian life: "Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many" (Mt. 20:26-28).
This shows us that Servant-Leaders exemplify by being effective servants. [Servant-Leader = One who serves their fellow man in accordance with the Bible, and leads them to righteousness when they are wanting to know more about God and His Word].

Blessings, Love & Peace 2 U All !!!

contradictions.. It's radiculous that Noah lived for over 600yrs.
Verse after immediate verse contradict each other about "life-span" of the flood to the extent that the story end up not making sense at all. If this was a prelude to the big salvation day (crucifixion) then it's not impressive at all. So, it's no surprise that the big is so controversial.

Check these direct quotes from the bible (All from Genesis) -
7:11 - In the six hundredth year of Noah's life, in the second month, the seventeenth day of the month, the same day were all the fountains of the great deep broken up, and the windows of heaven were opened.
7:17 - And the flood was forty days upon the earth;
7:24 - And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.
8:3 - And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated.

NB: Don't tell me to read the bible - make clear biblical quotes about Noah's ark and the flood

Isaiah 53: 5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned every one to his own way; and the LORD hath laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.

Most spiritual traditions include music of some sort, from simple solitary chanting to grand choral masses accompanied by a full orchestra.

How does music spiritually effect you?

What kind or style of music connects you to the universe, to others, or to your conception of the divine?

How does the spiritual experience differ if you are a performer, as opposed to being a listener?
