And how do you distinguish self-righteous service from true other-centered service?

NOTE:
Jesus made it clear that servant-hood is an integral part of the Christian life: "Whoever wants to be great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many" (Mt. 20:26-28).
This shows us that Servant-Leaders exemplify by being effective servants. [Servant-Leader = One who serves their fellow man in accordance with the Bible, and leads them to righteousness when they are wanting to know more about God and His Word].

Blessings, Love & Peace 2 U All !!!

A christian should want to serve others because he/she will be blessed by that. There should be pleasure in providing service to others and denying oneself. Wanting to be a servant begins in the heart. When you have Jesus in your heart, you will want to do that.

Unless you are entirely self-sufficient you are a servant because if you need people to serve you the only way to get that is to serve others.

I serve people at my job all the time. Then I take the money from that and give it to people to provide service to me. Like it or not people must serve to survive, whether they need to serve in accordance with the Bible is a seperate question.

Yeah right, I´m only a servant to those I like... The others might well go do whatever they please. I like to be helpful to others, but being a "servant" is quite over the top. Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law, Love is the Law, Love under Will

We are to pick up the cross daily and offer our lives as living sacrifices unto God. This is our spiritual act of worship.

Its all heart motive. Check your heart in daily with God. If its not right, I promise you, He will reveal it to you.
