A cousin of mine was finally able to overcome his addction to illegal drugs. He has also quit stealing and talking profanely. He contributes this to his recent faith. Would it be rude of me to tell him there is nothing to put his faith into but himself. He really believes he wouldn't have come out of it otherwise. Do you think he would relapse if his hope was squashed?

If not, why not? personally, I think that the nature of the universe (chaotic creation and frequent destruction) and our existence would lead me to think that we are not here by accident. For most atheists, I notice a theme of disbelieving in the God offered by Christianity. I find it hard to believe in the 'old man with a white beard' paradigm, but when I think of the chances of my existence, and the chances of my planets existence, and the chances of my Solar System's existence, etc, it seems kind of hard to deny.

And if so who determines what is right or wrong? In a world where the line between right and wrong is so fuzzy where can we find our footing?

If He knows now that I end up accepting Him and go to Heaven, then it seems I have no choice but to make that choice so as to agree with what He knows will happen! Likewise if He knows I end up going to Hell... if He knows now that that's my fate, then nothing I do in the meantime can change it (if I could, then that would invalidate God's prior knowledge, which is impossible...!) Is predestination not inevitable given that God has 100% correct knowledge of the future???

or would you rather live in the good old days like in the middle ages when the catholic church forbade the study of the human body (because they considered it a form of questioning god) and virtually all medical advancements where made by Muslims and Jews.

Hi, I am just interested about the Quran. I respect Islam the most and have always wanted to read the Quran. Unfortunately, I don't know how to read Arabic, nor can I speak it. Is there any web-site where I can get it (for free) downloaded. I prefer it in form of document files though. Also, is there any place on the internet where I can download all the prayers. I want them in sound files.
Please can anyone help me and another thing...

and atheists only to the definitions of "god" as established by various organized religions?

My personal problem with the concept "god" as defined by Christianity and other faiths is the way they anthropomorphize an entity whose existence and nature our minds are simply not equipped to comprehend. This would make me an agnostic by nature. However, I am an atheist when it comes to the definition of "god" held by most religions. Why must we constantly attribute human emotions such as jealous and vengefulness, human intelligence, even human gender to something so truly undefinable, if there is indeed anything there at all? It's like ants trying to define the giant ant-mound destroyers and food providers (we humans) using ant emotions and ant terminology.

I realize humans find it easier to contemplate something if they put a more familiar face on it, so I'm not opposed to anthropomorphosis of deities as a rule. It only bothers me when it is taken literally.

What's your take on this?

Here are the most common things that god believers say

1. Life is empty without God(Empty? You mean your mind is empty of knowledge. God is your crutch)

2. What's keeping you from doing bad things?(If you need an invisible man to tell you that murder is wrong, you're a dangerous person)

3. God loves all of us(maybe you didn't receive enough love as a child so you imagine an invisible man is giving it to you)

How long was it between the time that Adam and Eve started living in Eden until they were kicked out?

On a similar note - how long was it after the world was created until The Flood ?

Jesus is about to return and we are rejoycing from east to west that he has a devine purpose for everything that goes on in the world. So...when you appear before the Lord on judgement day, he will not ask you what wealth you had...he will not ask you what your best possession was. He will not ask you what your bet deed was but he will ask you this..."What was your relationship with my son, Jesus Christ?" The relationship can go two ways. You either believe he died on the cross to save mankind from their sins or you just sat aroundd like a fat cat in your own sinful pleasures...

I have heard that ,and the majority of talk radio shows seem to portray "peace seekers" as wasting their time. They intimate that that it is honorable for a Muslim to lie to an infidel to further their cause.? And, why haven't the Muslims in America vocally condemned the flagrant hostilities committed by their extremists ?
