If not, why not? personally, I think that the nature of the universe (chaotic creation and frequent destruction) and our existence would lead me to think that we are not here by accident. For most atheists, I notice a theme of disbelieving in the God offered by Christianity. I find it hard to believe in the 'old man with a white beard' paradigm, but when I think of the chances of my existence, and the chances of my planets existence, and the chances of my Solar System's existence, etc, it seems kind of hard to deny.

I notice that disbelievers have a tendency to illustrate with simplistic questions, or use religion as evidence. Think outside of the box. When I say God, I don't mean God of the earth, I am thinking of god of known (and unknown) creation. The paradigm of the dolphins thinking that the ocean is the center of the universe, or god made the roses red is almost useless. In my mind, the fact that we know how God made roses red doesn't take away from the fact he [programmed the computer] that allowed the Dolphins to have an environment to develop in. I also don't think that the existence of other hospitable planets, Galaxies, etc. disproves God. I think he created them, just as he created ours. How would the existence of extraterrestrial life play into your belief or disbelief of God?

For those of you who want to use evolution or relativity, what do you think about the fact that both Darwin and Einstein believed in God?

I am without belief in all gods. The scope and grandeur of all existence is quite astounding, but it doesn't lead me to conclude that a cosmic super-being conjured it up by will alone.

I don't know why you have given up the calculation with chances! A system will be traped in a stable energy state among the hundreds of millions of states it may have. Since the probability is low, the process of getting into a stable state needs lot of time. e.g. age of earth. When you are cooling a solution of some crystalizable material, if you do it quickly, the solid will not be properly shapped. If you do it very slowly, nice crystals will form. Same explanation!
But that doesn't mean that that we should deny the concept of god. Till now the concept has not been proved to be either correct or wrong!
Another issue is belief. A man can do wonders by believing something. The religion leaders were well aware of that fact. They gave man kind to believe in some concept which makes people mentally peaceful, stronger and calm. I think that should be the main aim of religions.

I believe in God because He is one of those things that are worth believing in. It's like believing that men are basically good, or that the sun will rise tomorrow, or that babies are pure and innocent. It's just one of those things worth believing.

I believe in God, also, because there is too much evidence to deny him. I love how, in most of my debates with athiests, they have no trouble believing that energy and matter existed from the begining, but to believe that a God also existed, and created the universe and all things which in it are, is simply too much. Personally, I can believe in God more than I can just believe in... well, *stuff*.

I guess it's because I want to hope that, by living a decent life, I will earn a reward. I don't want to believe that life ends with a wooden box and a heap of dirt. I don't like thinking that my husband and son will be lost to me after I die.

I think it would be an awful sad thing not to believe in God, because that's where all of my hope and optimism comes from.

No... If i told you now that there was a blue and pink alien tap dancing on your roof would yo take my word or go out look to see if i was being truthful....
Me i would look (not only for the humour of seeing a blue and pink tap dancing alien on the roof) but to make sure you were not bull sh!ting me. I have not seen god nor have found any evidence of him Eg: you will not find a UFO in your backyard if you were to go look right now, so why would you believe that the alien was ever there? If you would naively follow my belief of the alien on the roof than you in my eyes would be gullible just like if i where to take you or anyone Else's opinion about god.
But that is my opinion only.

As a Christian believers; I really believe in God. And all the things here on earth are made by God.

Other says is this picture of God is real? God said; He created human by his own image and likeness. So, the picture represent that God is thesame us. There such an example: You dont see your grandgrand father but there is a picture that reminds your generation that he is your grandgrand father. Would you believe in the picture that he is your grandgrand father? If you say yes, then how about God?

I believe in GOD because I know GOD is real. I "found" GOD when I was about 9 years old. Something terrible happened and there was no one in my family I could turn to. I prayed to GOD and instantly felt warm and loved. I have never felt that way before. It's a pure love. I have heard what other people say and what is being done in their religions, but I know GOD is for real. I don't need to go to a church or some holy land to know that my faith is true. I pray every single day and I know GOD hears my prayers. I struggle every day and I do without alot however, I am extremely happy and still ever so faithful. If you truely open your heart and talk to GOD in Jesus's name, then you too will know that GOD is real. No one can tell you who GOD is, you have to know him yourself. Thank you and GOD bless.

Holding to a faith, whether it be Christianity, Judeism, Bhudism, or the hundreds of others is the nature of humanity IMHO.

As we work our way through life, we have trials and difficult times that we cannot fathom. The death of a friend or family memeber, the violence that pervades our community, the conflicts, the worst of times...That's when we seek God, or a Supreme Being, to help us gather inner strength to deal with what life throws at us.

We also use God to focus our morailty and use our religion to bolster our resolve to do the right thing. How many times has a choice been put before you that wasn't ethical or moral, and because of your belief structure or dogma, you chose the high road, and sway others to do the same...Religion is a basis for our moral compass.

I truely believe in God and in Jesus Christ. That is my belief, and I'm obviously not alone. I am interested in others views of religion and the way of things, I find it interesting. As a Christian, I look to God and Christ to give me solice at times, give me strength at times, give me hope, give me the will to carry on.

All of these things we have within ourselves, don't we. We absently ask another to give us that which we already posses. As such, we believe we're not alone in providing our own strengths, it gives us some sense of steadfast resolve to perservere in the difficult times and a being to thank for the times in between.

I am comforted in the belief that God and Christ are there for me and are holding a place for me in the next life.

There are more stars in the universe than there are grains of sand on earth. Do you think it's impossible that there is another solar system out there that has a Jupiter like planet to shield the inner planets from cosmic threats and an earth like planet properly distanced from it's star so that it can support life?

EDIT: I am of the opinion that there is a god, but our solar system is not all that special.

I believe in evolution! cause there is more evidence then the bible and some of the things stated that is not possible. I think the bible was created by monks to give hope to the poor and unworthy and Jesus was just a good man that help people therefore was really well known and story about his magical powers was just story that evolved through Chinese whispers!.....but yet again you never can put your hand too it! therefore we'll never know......
