I've never seen so many Christian pretzels under one question, tying themselves in knots to twist Jesus's message into something other than what it clearly says. How hypocritical.

That was somebody else.

Jesus said to some of his disciples, give all your belongings to your family. To others he had them bring their artisan tools to aid in the minstry process, but it was their tools.

Later, Jesus said: Sell all you own and buy a sword.

But we must also remember AFTER that event, Jesus also said: Those who live by the sword die by the sword.

Jesus didn't want any more martyrs. That was his job.

You buy a sword with you excess, you become an artisan with it, you used it only as a last resort and do you best as a skilled aristan not to harm one hair on the head of the opponant. Just put the fear of God into them and get out of there with your own head intact.

The rich man asked Jesus what he needed to do to be saved. Jesus told him to believe and repent. When he said he had done that already, Jesus told him if he wanted to be PERFECT, go and sell all that you have and give it to the poor.

Yes, he did say something like that. However, Jesus did not stop there, he continued to tell him to come and follow him after he has made himself poor. That was how he would be saved. Now, you don't have to go through all this trouble. Jesus was crucified, he died and was buried, he rose again the 3rd day and is now seated at the right hand of God. That made things easier. You just have to come to Jesus as you are and be saved.

Open to interpretation:

Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go [and] sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come [and] follow me.

It doesn't really say "get to heaven" it says "have riches in heaven" so they might weasel out of this one.

It has a similar verse in Mark and in Luke, but each is worded a little differently. But don't forget, there are no contradictions!! Inspired by god (to write different words)

Nope pretty sure it was Jesus, hope Christians read this and sell their computer haha.

"No God wants us to be rich.....including finances"

Matthew 19:24
Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Mark 10:25
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Luke 18:25
Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

Have you even read this thing?

"tucker fy... where in that verse you quoted does Jesus say... "in order to be saved"? Talk about one that twist scripture... this is why the non believer does NOT understand what is written"

Yes. Jesus said it to a rich young ruler. He can read the heart and used this as a test of the man's faith. Sadly, the ruler failed the test. He walked away.

he was telling that specifically to a rich man. the rich man wanted to get into heaven and he asked Jesus what he had to do. and Jesus told him to sell all of his possessions and follow him. But the rich man became sad because he knew he loved his things more than Jesus.

Nope. He said if you say you are making a 100% to me would you could you do that.
The question was from a rich young lawyer who claimed to be good enough to get to heaven and Jesus told him he should do one more thing. Go and sell all and give to poor. The story never says what the young ruler did.
