And believers of the Bible say those don't apply to anyone at all? There are many things listed that you would never get away with in this day and age. But God says you can't pick and choose what you believe from there and what you don't. So either all of the Bible is a lie or it's all truth that people choose to ignore. It can't both. Seems like it would be a slap in the face to God to outright ignore and disobey anything he has commanded. Considering he was very violent and jealous in the Bible.

For the record, I don't believe in taking it literally. Before anyone makes accusations of such.

The fifth commandment, "You shall not kill” teaches us that we should respect all life; that all human life is sacred and must never be destroyed; to appreciate the precious girf of life and health; we must avoid every excess that will damage our health & life. Why is this an important message for today's world? and Why is this message a challenge to today's culture and values?

The fourth commandment, "Honour your father and mother” teaches us that we should respect all authority figures because all authority comes from God and your parents were created to teach and love you; and be thankful for the people in life that God gave you. Why is this an important message for today's world? and Why is this message a challenge to today's culture and values?

I like to ask someone if they consider that they might be wrong about there religion. If they say yes there somewhat open minded. If they say N0. I know they are completely brain washed. I think there is no hope for people like that. I think they would accept that God is speaking to there Priest if he tells them so. These are the people who will strap on explosives and walk into a mall in the name of God/allah. Without even thinking about it.

Ps: I know i might be wrong about being an Atheist. I still think mine is the most reasonable choice.

My God is everything......everything. Everything is made up of energy, God is that energy, and through that energy produced a universe (or maybe universes) and everything (including me and you) in it.

In turn "Satan" is individuality, and thinking that you are not part of the whole. Which, I believe was the original sin.

It is a common complaint among some non-Muslims that Islam would not have millions of adherents all over the world, if it had not been spread by the use of force. The following points will make it clear, that far from being spread by the sword, it was the inherent force of truth, reason and logic that was responsible for the rapid spread of Islam.
Islam means peace.
Islam comes from the root word ‘salaam’, which means peace. It also means submitting one’s will to Allah (swt). Thus Islam is a religion of peace, which is acquired by submitting one’s will to the will of the Supreme Creator, Allah (swt).
Sometimes force has to be used to maintain peace.
Each and every human being in this world is not in favor of maintaining peace and harmony. There are many, who would disrupt it for their own vested interests. Sometimes force has to be used to maintain peace. It is precisely for this reason that we have the police who use force against criminals and anti-social elements to maintain peace in the country. Islam promotes peace. At the same time, Islam exhorts it followers to fight where there is oppression. The fight against oppression may, at times, require the use of force. In Islam force can only be used to promote peace and justice.
Opinion of historian De Lacy O’Leary.
The best reply to the misconception that Islam was spread by the sword is given by the noted historian De Lacy O’Leary in the book "Islam at the cross road" (Page 8):
"History makes it clear however, that the legend of fanatical Muslims sweeping through the world and forcing Islam at the point of the sword upon conquered races is one of the most fantastically absurd myth that historians have ever repeated."
Muslims ruled Spain for 800 years.
Muslims ruled Spain for about 800 years. The Muslims in Spain never used the sword to force the people to convert. Later the Christian Crusaders came to Spain and wiped out the Muslims. There was not a single Muslim in Spain who could openly give the adhan, that is the call for prayers.
14 million Arabs are Coptic Christians.
Muslims were the lords of Arabia for 1400 years. For a few years the British ruled, and for a few years the French ruled. Overall, the Muslims ruled Arabia for 1400 years. Yet today, there are 14 million Arabs who are Coptic Christians i.e. Christians since generations. If the Muslims had used the sword there would not have been a single Arab who would have remained a Christian.
The Muslims ruled India for about a thousand years but still more than 80% non-Muslims in India.
The Muslims ruled India for about a thousand years. If they wanted, they had the power of converting each and every non-Muslim of India to Islam. Today more than 80% of the population of India are non-Muslims. All these non-Muslim Indians are bearing witness today that Islam was not spread by the sword.
Indonesia and Malaysia.
Indonesia is a country that has the maximum number of Muslims in the world. The majority of people in Malaysia are Muslims. May one ask, "Which Muslim army went to Indonesia and Malaysia?"
East Coast of Africa.
Similarly, Islam has spread rapidly on the East Coast of Africa. One may again ask, if Islam was spread by the sword, "Which Muslim army went to the East Coast of Africa?"
Thomas Carlyle.
The famous historian, Thomas Carlyle, in his book "Heroes and Hero worship", refers to this misconception about the spread of Islam: "The sword indeed, but where will you get your sword? Every new opinion, at its starting is precisely in a minority of one. In one man’s head alone. There it dwells as yet. One man alone of the whole world believes it, there is one man against all men. That he takes a sword and try to propagate with that, will do little for him. You must get your sword! On the whole, a thing will propagate itself as it can."
No compulsion in religion.
With which sword was Islam spread? Even if Muslims had it they could not use it to spread Islam because the Qur’an says in the following verse:
"Let there be no compulsion in religion: Truth stands out clear from error"[Al-Qur’an 2:256]
Sword of the Intellect.
It is the sword of intellect. The sword that conquers the hearts and minds of people. The Qur’an says in Surah Nahl, chapter 16 verse 125:
"Invite (all) to the way of thy Lord with wisdom and beautiful preaching; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious." [Al-Qur’an 16:125]
Increase in the world religions from 1934 to 1984.
An article in Reader’s Digest ‘Almanac’, year book 1986, gave the statistics of the increase of percentage of the major religions of the world in half a century from 1934 to 1984. This article also appeared in ‘The Plain Truth’ magazine. At the top was Islam, which increased by 235%, and Christianity had increased only by 47%. May one ask, which war took place in this century which converted millions of people to Islam?
Islam is the fastest growing religion in America and Europe.
Today the fastest growing religion in America is Islam. The fastest growing religion in Europe in Islam. Which sword is forcing people in the West to accept Islam in such large numbers?
Dr. Joseph Adam Pearson.
Dr. Joseph Adam Pearson rightly says, "People who worry that nuclear weaponry will one day fall in the hands of the Arabs, fail to realize that the Islamic bomb has been dropped already, it fell the day MUHAMMED (pbuh) was born". (Dr.Zakir Naik www.irf.net)

Consider the following scenarios:
A) I create an IVF embryo and then destroy it
B) I create an IVF embryo, clone it, implant it in it's mother's womb, and destroy the clone
C) I create an IVF embryo, clone it, then implant the clone and destroy the original
D) I intend to create an IVF embryo, I have a viable sperm, egg, and petri dish all set to go, but then at the last minute I change my mind and don't create an embryo

In all 4 scenarios, there was a potential for human life, which I ended. Do they all constitute murder? Where do you draw the line, and why?

Note for the uninitiated: an IVF embryo is an embryo created using in vitro fertilization. These will, under the right circumstances, become human beings. I mention them because my scenarios would be difficult to imagine if I were creating all these embryos the old-fashioned way.

I see so many questions like this one every day (so I can't believe I'm asking one now).

But why would it bother the religious people on here that atheists and agnostics Q&A people about religion?

Wouldn't you want to take advantage of the opportuinity to show the world that your religion is logical and can be defended?

Wouldn't you want to show those people who are undecided how good and rational it is to become a Christian (or whatever faith you are)?

I see so many Christians on here complain about atheists being on here, but isn't this just a chance for you to show how foolish they are?

Thanks,
Curious Atheist here

My parents used to be a part of this group a long time ago.

All I know is that they were part of that group, no info on the practices and how they functioned.

Why are people so secretive about this?

Not talking about a particular one;but from a supreme being perspective:

Does it actually give ya'll comfort to try and believe there's not a God?

Or do ya'll just continue to say that becuase ya'll dont know which one is real? And your afraid to trust people when they say this or that God is real?

Becuas honestly, anybody with eyes should be able to see theirs more than enough evidence for God or a suprem creator. Randomness does not create complex things, it only makes a mess. You would actually need a creator to to take the time to actually make something and make it more and more complex.

Again does it give you comfort to believe there's no God. Or is that just a defense mechanism becuase you're afraid to do like the one deciple that wanted to walk on water like Jesus? Are you afraid to step out on faith?

I just finished reading HC Moolenburgh´s "A Handbook of Angels". Dr Moolenburgh says that the welfare state has made spiritual lazybones of us all, since those of us accustomed to being served with our every wish have no incentive to pray. He says that if we break free of our welfare dependence, ´then God sends his servants and man is helped in the most remarkable ways´.

This means that the state need not spend billions on social security, health care and unemployment benefit. Angels cost the taxpayer nothing: GOD WILL PROVIDE.

This book changed my brothers life.Ted has gone off state payments. He now has faith that God will provide for him. Ted lives in a wheelchair after he lost his legs to friendly fire in the Gulf War. This is something he really wants to do. He has little money to get cabs, buy food, heating and so on. But he has noticed that the weather has been warmer, thanks to the angels.

Has anyone else read this book and had visits from the angels?
