I just finished reading HC Moolenburgh´s "A Handbook of Angels". Dr Moolenburgh says that the welfare state has made spiritual lazybones of us all, since those of us accustomed to being served with our every wish have no incentive to pray. He says that if we break free of our welfare dependence, ´then God sends his servants and man is helped in the most remarkable ways´.
This means that the state need not spend billions on social security, health care and unemployment benefit. Angels cost the taxpayer nothing: GOD WILL PROVIDE.
This book changed my brothers life.Ted has gone off state payments. He now has faith that God will provide for him. Ted lives in a wheelchair after he lost his legs to friendly fire in the Gulf War. This is something he really wants to do. He has little money to get cabs, buy food, heating and so on. But he has noticed that the weather has been warmer, thanks to the angels.
Has anyone else read this book and had visits from the angels?

Ted has an opportunistic infection in his leg. He has had to go off his medication because it was paid for by the state. He is looking pale and running a temperature. Should we call a doctor or wait for angels?

Yes, wait upon the Angels (or is it the Angles?).
I can see the answer to Ted's problem already being forged by the Heavenly Host upon the anvil of faith. You yourself have probably realized that you nosed the answer out in part already.
You said that Ted's leg smells like old cheese.
We know that during the Holiday Season, many people are looking for special gifts that say something extra. Often these gifts are for dear ones far removed, and specialty shops are even as we communicate, opening nation-wide, selling cakes, sweetmeats, smoked flesh and old cheese.
Surely as Ted's leg ripens, a rich gourmand will be drawn to him by the aroma of his leg. We all know how very kind and generous the rich are, they remind us at every penny the drop into the bucket of brotherly love at this time of year. Without doubt, Ted will be taken under th care of some rich banker, just like Tiny Tim, and all will be well.
A show of faith on your part couldn't hurt, I suggest that you float the largest life insurance policy you can on Ted, soonest. You or a friend can stand in for him during the physical, so he needn't be discommoded.
God bless us, every one.

Interesting. If you read the Old Testament, you see two things at work for providing for those in need. There is the law with forbade the harvesting of the gleanings, where the poor can come an gather for their needs (work for their food). Read Ruth to see examples of this. Then there is the miraculous intervention of God, which we see many times. I do believe that the Welfare State has made lazy all those who could depend on God for provision. However, I have seen many instances where people fall between the beaurocratic cracks and the church cares for them often.
I have also seen those who could do nothing more than depend on God, because what they needed the government could not, or would not supply. But God always came through.
Sounds like an interesting book. And I have to hand it to Ted for venturing out on faith.

Yes, God is the provider. If people would let the blessings of God pass through them to others instead of trying to hold on to them or the majority for themselves the world would be a different place. The blessings of God in our life is truly a blessing and it is also a test of our stewardship for Him.
Many times a blessing can be seemingly indirect. For example you want to get something and when you go to get it you only pay 25% of what others paid for the same item. This is a blessing! Another is you go out to lunch and someone else insists on paying for it, a blessing. A big part of being a blessing is in being able to recieve the blessing through another, as well as being the blessing to someone else. These are how God does His good works through you. God not only tells us that He is our provider He also says that we will reap what we sow. This is a truth that exists from God whether you believe that God exists or not.

"For even when we were with you, we used to give you this order: if anyone will not work, neither let him eat. For we hear that some among you are leading an undisciplined life, doing no work at all, but acting like busybodies. Now such persons we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus to work in quiet fashion and eat your own bread. But as for you brethren, do not grow weary of doing good" (II Thessalonians 3:11-13)
God will indeed provide, and if necessary by supernatural means. Nevertheless the common means of provision in the Christian life is expressed in the above passages.

I have known the blessings of God.He have provided things before I even asked.
The problem is we live in a very "ME" world.People are to busy to help out there brother or sister who has a need.
Welfare is abused by many lazy people ,but it also helps many who would be own the street starving without it.
God said give and it shall be given unto you good measured ,pressed down and shaken together.
When people get back to putting others first then God will bless.<><

A man sets on the rooftop because of a great flood. A rescue boat arrives but the man refuses and tells them no thanks I am waiting on God. The waters rise chst high and another boat arrives and the man waves them away telling them no thanks I am waiting on God. the waters rise to the mans neck and a helicopter flies overhead and again the man waves the help off and continues to wait on God. The man dies and stands before God Why didn't you rescue me? the man asked God replied I sent two boats and a helicopter.

Um, guess what -- before any kind of welfare system existed in the US, and when *more* of the population were supposedly "good christians," there were thousands and thousands of people starving, wandering without homes, and living miserable lives.
Proof positive that "god" does not provide.
Best of luck to your brother -- but I don't think he can count on angels...and global warming has made the weather warmer, not angels :(

Aren't things like social security, health care and unemployment benefits ways to help less fortunate that we as a society agreed on? Isn't it what bible teaches you? And you are suggesting "F u c k less fortunate! Let god help them. Why should I care?"
