HumanLight (December 23rd) celebrates Humanism and the choice many have made to live their lives by the guidance of reason and human compassion.

There is already a Freethought Day (called Freethought "Coming Out" Day by some), celebrated in Sacramento, California, each October 12th. It's an annual celebration of "freethought, liberty of conscience, naturalistic ethics, secular government, and civic values." On October 12, 1692, Massachusetts' colonial governor, William Phipps, issued an edict ending the acceptability of "spectral evidence" in court proceedings. (Such superstition-based "evidence" was much abused in the horrendous Salem Witch trials.)

I personally would like to have a celebration of Thomas Paine Day on the anniversary of his birth: January 29th.
Oh, and then there's the secularists' alternative to the National Day of Prayer, called the National Day of Reason.

JAT: "[W]here do people like Steve S go to school? 'There are no atheists??'"
Don't mind him. "There are no atheists" is his mantra. He thinks that, if he writes it often enough, he'll eventually convince himself that it's true.

How about Christmas? My mom is a non religious person and she does the whole tree and ornaments and lights and gift giving and dinner. Why does she do this? Becuse she enjoys the giving and fun nature of the holiday. She doesn't do it for Christ's birth (even though I think Christmas is a beautiful holiday for christians and I have nothing against them!)
If you dont like that day- Im sure in the near future, 'freethinkers' ----or non believers-- will have their own paid holiday (at least in America) Darwin Day? Very well could be a possibility!!! Good luck to you. Peace.

Great question. I've always been a fan of "firsts". I've been known to celebrate the first of the month, even but in particular any new year (Jewish, Chinese, European). There's just something seductive about a day you can freely discard previous misconceptions and adopt entirely new misconceptions with no qualms whatsoever. You could randomly pick a month to celebrate the first day of and call it Freedom from Dogma day.
Oh, Mythmas (December 24?) and Boxing Day (December 26, aka 'xmas for the help') are both sound cool too. You just can't celebrate too much.

We don`t need to be like the religious .We should just be proud that we are not shackled to believe in religion .
Most Atheists celebtate LIFE everyday .There is no need to gloat .
We can Celebrate every holiday we want without the programmed agenda that must be followed.

I celebrate the winter solstice(12/21) and Isaac Newton's birthday (12/25). Many people celebrate Kwanzaa this time of year as well. And of course, there's always Festivus.
