their books are the best written book ever? In the first pages of them.

Do muslims think the inspiration (Allah) is a better writer than the one (God) who inspired the Bible?

Do Mormons think the inspiration to Joseph Smith is a better writer than the one (God) who inspired the Bible?

When I grew up in the midwest the Christians I met were fairly narrow-minded, depressed, grumpy, kinda uneducated, and always worrying about Hell. However, the freethinkers and non-believers that I came across always had a zeal for life, always reading new books, did volunteer work, enjoyed interesting hobbies, and like to converse about anything; nothing was taboo. Why the big difference?

When you scan through the Religious & Spirituality section of Yahoo Answers, it’s very obvious there are messages and messengers. It’s also very obvious the majority of Religious Believers attack the messenger rather than the message. Religious people tell non-believers they are sinners, Satan’s children dammed to Hell, must repent or they will be tortured for eternity unless they change their way and start believing in God.

On the other hand, Non-Believers tend to break down the message into its commonsense and logical parts, debate and dispute the details, and try their best to offer a hand of compassion and guidance to the messenger. Non-believers offer condolence and sympathy to religious people in the hope they will find a better and happier life if they would just stop believing in God and walk away from religion.

Why do most religious people attack the messenger rather than trying to understand the message, and behave in a decent manner like non-believers?

Two examples as food for thought.

On the one hand we have WhyNotAskDon, who as a level 6, spends a considerable amount of time on Yahoo Answers in general and a high concentration of it in the Religion forum. He's a proponent of a Christian religion and has his own website promoting his unique religious beliefs.

On the other hand, we have Choose_Reality, who as a level 4 also spends a not inconsequential amount of time on these boards answering questions. He also spends a good amount of time in the Religion area, but as a staunch atheist, he has the exact opposite agenda as Don.

I guess the question that I'm really asking is, do you trust someone with an obvious opinion or standpoint (and seeming vested interest in maintaining that standpoint) to give you an objective answer?

Are answers that represent a personal agenda less meaningful?

Please do not attack either of these community members. They are merely given as examples (though I'd like them to respond).

The Apostle Paul writes:
A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. For Adam was formed first, then Eve. And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

It seems to me that you’d have to be kind of stupid to want to worship a goddess. Paul wrote these things because women are less mentally capable than men. Their role is to have children and look after them. You are to be priest of your home. Are you a bunch of pansies? Why would you submit yourself to something less then you are?

In Christ,
Bob

When someone takes excess alcohol it affects their mind and body. Alcohol can drive a person into the evil world of insanity, violence, murder and hatred. We all read about crimes of passion and the killing of innocent life as a result of excess alcohol. This problem is known as being Blind Drunk.

When people are subjected to the brain-washing effects of excess religion it also affects their mind and body. Religion has a history of evil, insanity, murder and hatred. We all read about holy wars and the killing of innocent life as a result of excess religion. This problem is known as Blind Faith.

Notice the commonality of the two – Blind Drunk and Blind Faith, they both affect the commonsense and logic processing of the brain, and can turn otherwise decent people into savage insane murderers full of hatred.

Either way, when you are Blind Drunk or have Blind Faith you are Blind to the Truth, so why not say no to religion and learn how to be a decent human being again?

My Catholic mother and Catholic wife will bring my body to a Church, where over my dead body a priest will tell friends and family, "Sean was a loving devoted husband, who loved and served the Lord God, and he was terrificly smart, using all the gifts God gave him".

Will the truth of me die and dissappear? No more jim darwin on yahoo answers. No more me at my job.

Why can't we just say the truth at funerals? "Sean struggled to believe in God, he had many faults, he had hair on his bottom and smelled funny when he ate taco bell, he liked a lot of women, he couldn't concentrate all the time, and despite his agnosticism, he had a heart of Gold."

Why is every Eulogy essentially a pep ralley for goodness, and not the saying good bye to who the man or woman really was and tried to be, and failed every day to be who they wanted.

It's one of those flash mob things and everyone dressed up as zombies but the target in this pic just seems to make it so much funnier. I only put this in the religion section because of what he's wearing.

I'm not trying to offend anyone. I just think it's kind of funny.

Why do people think their religion is the one and only? You might believe it but why would you go on record to say that Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and others is the one true one? Doesn't it depend on when and where you were born?

If you were born in North America 3,000 years ago, you'd worship whatever your tribe did. If you were born in India now, most likely you'd be a Hindu. If you were born in Macedonia during Alexander's reign, you'd worship a group of gods. If you were born in South America in the early 1900's you'd be Christian. Isn't this so obvious? So then why do people think their God and belief is the most natural and logical belief that one can have and furthermore that it was the way it always was and will always be?
That's not to say that there is or isn't a God, but why one God and not the other? Why don't people at least see it's dependant on time, place and temperment and not on some "truth?"

how can it be a secular government? What if majority of people do not want a secular governmnet since religion is an every day thing for people? We would see a destruction of democracy. I would say Christians like Bush and those that adore him really would hate to see a secular government. I would say the laws and practices of religious fanatics will interfere with the concept of democracy.

Next question if there is a deterioration of this 'democracy' in the states how can you enforce it on other countries in middle east, like Iraq?
