how can it be a secular government? What if majority of people do not want a secular governmnet since religion is an every day thing for people? We would see a destruction of democracy. I would say Christians like Bush and those that adore him really would hate to see a secular government. I would say the laws and practices of religious fanatics will interfere with the concept of democracy.

Next question if there is a deterioration of this 'democracy' in the states how can you enforce it on other countries in middle east, like Iraq?

Our democracy has turned into a dictatorship.

Now there are no search and seizure laws, your house can be bugged and your phone conversations and e-mails can be read all in the name of national security. What a joke.

Martina Navratilova, the great tennis player said it best. She said it's just like her old country Chekoslovakia when communism ruled.

When the president can circumvent congress to go to war it's a joke. Our forefathers would be appalled at what is happening now because the very laws they created were made to protect the people from the government.

In the 1950's the same bullcrap was done during the McCarthy hearings when senator McCarthy destroyed many peoples lives in hollywood by claiming they "may" be communists. J. Edgar Hoover was ruining homosexuals lives while having a homosexual lover and being a cross-dresser and he ran the FBI.

White collar crime is so prevelant, that there arent' enough people to even investigate all of the corporations.

The war in Iraq? a joke. They had nothing to do with 911 and they were a country we know we can beat.

Gas prices when Bush came into office: $1.49
Predicted gas prices when he leaves office: $3.50-$4.00

Mission accomplished.

Oh thank you! I've been trying to wrap my mind around that concept and get it into words. You are right, there is no secular government. The majority rules. The non-believers are screwed! As for enforcing it in other countries, well they will enforce their brand of democracy.

Maybe if all the non-believers would start pro-creating and proseletizing maybe we could change the government and turn the tide.

The Founding Fathers who wrote that whole "for the people by the people" spoke AGAINST democracy. They even wrote how a nation would end up if it became a democracy... and oddly enough it's what we have today. Yet, all of these politicians are saying they are only following what our Founding Fathers set down for us. No, we aren't.... they set up a Republic, very similar to what Rome had "in the day". And don't you find it odd that we are supposed to be a Republic (and to the Republic for which it stands), run by a Republican president (for now)... yet we're spreading Democracy to other countries?????? Talk about messed up!

A majority of the people sometimes want conflicting things, such as prayer in school but also freedom of religion. We trust our government to balance those conflicting desires, which will often result in the protection of the minority against the will of the majority. A majority of the people wanting religion as the basis of government should yield to a majority of those people also wanting individual freedoms. It is in this failure to provide individual freedoms that muslim countries have shown they are not democratic, because it is simply unbelievable that people anywhere would not want life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Yes, you are correct in your stance. America has outgrown the simple concepts of the founding papers. While I do believe in the basic tenets of it all, this country really need to clamp down on crime, which I believe will be the cancer which will kill this country years down the road. Many of our laws are contradictory and biased.

To answer your question, I wouldn't force any country to American-style democracy. Especially for Iraq where two religious faction of Islam violently oppose each other. This brings me to a point: Islam and democracy are incompatible.

because of the fact the majority purely get to ascertain in the bounds set by the form, as interpreted by the courts. the human beings are not getting loose reign to do something they elect. yet they could continually substitute the form. So, if that a lot of human beings surely want a countrywide faith, and surely elect to impose their religious ideals on every physique else, they could desire to persist with the right technique. Amend the form. Or persist with the guidelines. p.c.. one.

The majority of people can still go to their church, but religion in the public arena is a bad thing.

I think people forget that the constitution was meant to protect us from our government AND protect the minority from the majority.

Let freedom ring!

this country calls itself a democracy, but is actually a
representative government. we elect someone to
represent us and since each represents thousands
no one gets exactly what they want. actually the aclu is
doing more than the politicans to make it a secular
government. in their zeal to make certain no one is
ever coerced to any religion they are forcing us to
governmental atheism, which is itself a form of religion.
