Vlad the Impaler, who some say was the original inspiration for Dracula, devised this in prison. Here he was stuck in jail and wanting revenge, of course a more painful revenge than the treatment he was getting. He would capture birds in the window of his cell and watch them suffer and squirm after spearing them with a piece of wood (think of that the next time you get the skewers out for some meat).

In some ways it is a crucifixion with out the cross, only a good deal more grotesque, but usually faster. When he was no longer stuck in jail, he stuck people on poles to watch them suffer. Not exactly a WWJD moment.

An ancient form of torture/murder where a human is shoved down a stake from the anus to the head to prolong death and produce the greatest amount of pain till death occurs. Very nasty business.
