Belief only fills in the gaps in our knowlege. And the more we know the less we need belief.
Agree or disagree and why?

If you do something morally wrong and personally offensive, and desire to change but don't really do anything to change, want to know what to do to change, but don't research how to change, do you really want to change to begin with? If not, then how do you get to the point where you want to change badly enough to actually change?

We cannot live without love. If we do not encounter love, if we do not experience it and make it our own, and if we do not participate intimately in it, our life is meaningless. Without love we remain incomprehensible to ourselves. Pope John Paul II.

I was married to my partner of 10 years, Travis, last year on our anniversary in British Columbia. What I want to know is, how does my marriage (yes, it is a marriage, and I have the license to prove it) affect your lives? I could care less about your children, your religion and your lifestyle. Why not let my pursuit of life, liberty and happiness rule my life and let you run your life they way you want to? I don't go around telling Christians, Jews and Muslims that their life is wrong. Why not leave me out of your issues and focus on yourselves for a change? We have bigger issues at hand, like people dying for oil and the middle class getting screwed by the government.

Please, answer intelligently; I find most people never really dig into their own conclusions. Think critically before you answer this question.

Gandhi said "Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is still the truth"

Since that is obviously true, and each of us has our own interpretations/beliefs regarding what is true, then how can we ever come to a consensus?

Is our debating therefore completely worthless and a waste of time?

Christ took away any reason for that fear. It's the major point of the crucifixion. We believe in Christ which allows us to forget the fear and focus on living lives that make a difference in this world. We're left to bring heaven hear and represent God. So why argue that we are only followers because of fear? It's the opposite of the actual truth.

"if you open your mind to other religions then your basicly abandoning your own"
a direct quote from my last question. btw thanks for being honest in your opinion.

i guess what i'm trying to say is this, i don't understand how opening your mind and being educated means you abnadon your personal beliefs.

Given that there seems to be no consensus--at least so far--on the definitions of atheist, theist, and agnostic, maybe the labels are meaningless.

I am curious do you think people following other religions will also go to your version of heaven? Or do you believe all other religions are doomed to your version of hell? Please state your religion first and then your belief citing any certain religions you have strong beliefs about.

And I am sincerely interested; so just know if you go off on a ramapage or are a total non-believer I will simply ignore your anser because it will not be helpful and you will be wasting your own time.

Pt. 1: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aje8iCj.2XG_owo6Ta5Xp3Xzy6IX?qid=20060824112433AALzsYU

the general consensus of answerers to this question seems to be that belief does not equal truth.

So going along with these results, I will ask these questions:

How can you tell someone that you KNOW they WILL go to hell?
How can you KNOW that you WILL go to heaven?
How can you tell someone Allah IS the ONLY way?
How can you tell someone there IS no god?

What makes your belief more truthful than theirs?

(not that i am saying everyone does this)

i see a lot of people here are very closed minded and won't even consider other beliefs. is it because you feel you might lose your beliefs if you tollerate others?

I don't believe in any gods but I believe in lots of stuff. I don't have to see something before I believe it . . . like I believe in the Big Bang though you can be sure I never saw that. And I believe in human kindness, and taking care of the environment.

Is it just that the christians think you either have to believe in something for which there is no proof, or else you believe in nothing?

This is getting to be one of my pet peeves I think . . .
