its just xenophobia and religious misunderstanding that drives people to think that way. they think that if you are willing to accept the possibility of other religions being reasonable then it's a direct contradiction of whatever you believe. I think that's horse puckeys but that's why im agnostically atheist. I think opening our minds to other religions is the only way to make the world a peaceful place.

And I suppose through education you learned there was no God? It should be the other way around. I don't think people like to read bias opinions that are false.. Why would I waste my time reading un-truthful information. The only reason would be so they can defend their own beliefs, and spot errors in others..
Christianity is the only truth.

Just remember they don't have any proof of these theories for how Evolution occured, without a God... Yet ateist, agnositcs, think that it all happened by ridiculous chance, even though it is not possible if the world is non-static.Which scientist proved recently...Meaning that there is not infinite amounts of chances that creation could occur by accident..It would be like winning the lottery 5 times in a row, given 5 oppurtunties.. Then you can see DNA is coding that requires an intelligent mind.. Did you know that without the right amount of Earthquakes that life couldn't exist? Or how about the Earth having the perfect weight,, and moon. If you look at creation you will realize God has to exist..
Romans 1:20 says
"For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, [even] his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse."

I don't think that quote is quite right. Please let me change it slightly (if you'll allow me).
If you believe in the beliefs of other religions totally then you're basically abandoning your own. That sounds more correct and is probably what the person who said the original quote meant.
I am Jewish and am more than open to other religions and understand their points of view. However, I don't believe in other religions and I only believe in Judaism. Hope this helps.

it doesn't it just means that you are a more understanding person as long as you don't begin to believe their religion and only your own then it's not abandoning your religion. people dont even need a specific title for their religion. having some faith in something is better than having none at all. don't you think?

If anything, opening your mind and seeking knowledge will allow you to get to the core of what you truly believe, rather than what you think you believe because you've never challenged it in your own mind.
The beliefs that survive such challenge are the only ones you ever really held in the first place. The rest was just window dressing.

I think a lot of religious people believe it because they feel that if you open your mind to other religions you are abandoning your own because if you truly believed in you religion you would consider all religions false.

I think this person is trying to say that although you can accept many religions, certain parts are definitely going to clash, like Judaism's and Christianity's view on Jesus. If this is so, you may have to chose one, thus "abandoning" the other

What if, when you start to learn about other religions, you realize how ludicrous it is to believe you can be sure of the exact intentions of a higher power, or begin to question your own? If you live in a bubble where you are never forced to think independently, you are not hard to convert or control.

I am sure only the crazy cult like people believe that. i am open to learn what others believe in. If you look close enough we actually believe in the same things mostly, just the details end up being different.
Excpet for the people that dont believe, obviously we dont believ in the same things.

I don't believe that. I don't think most people believe that. I am very involved in church and I don't know anyone who believes that. In fact, all of my friends make it a point to be educated on different religions.
