(not that i am saying everyone does this)

i see a lot of people here are very closed minded and won't even consider other beliefs. is it because you feel you might lose your beliefs if you tollerate others?

I don't think I am intolerant and I am happy to consider, hear of other faiths. I think that you are correct in what you're hinting at. It is a kind of fortress mentality, and fortresses isolate people. In order to mingle you have to be comfortable with yourself and at the same time not so comfortable that you develop a kind of feeling of exclusivity or superiority. This is another kind of fortress.
The secular society seems to offer the best chance of affording an interaction among various groups, but it requires that people be open to "the other;" it is an act of trust and maturity.

Some people wonder consider other beliefs. I guess I am one of them because I believe in my religion because I have seen proof that it is real and it does exist. I have never seen another religion have their gods sacrifice anything for their people. People are always making sacrifices for their gods. I believe in Christianity and will not change my beliefs. It has proven to be the truth.

This is not the case. Islam has great tolerence within and on inter-religion grounds.
Islam addresses in great detail about how to deal with non-muslims in a society, their rights and responsibilities and everything. Islam not only binds non-muslims to behave in certain ways but also teaches its believers not to hurt their feelings and feel them secure in a society.
Islam is a great religion which addresses the whole humanity (and not only the muslims) in its holy book (The Quran). It brings all human beings on one forum without any conflict, with full peace and love and obedience to their only creator, Allah the Almighty.
Having said all that, islam demands its believers to raise the slogan of oneness of God. This is what no muslim can bear anything against.
THERE IS NO COMPROMISE ON THIS BELIEF OF ISLAM.

I do not consider myself close minded. I know that what I believe is real. I do not waste my time on superstition or things that are impossible to prove. I know that what I believe is real and true, not just for myself but all people. Truth is not relative. There are not multiple truths. There is only one truth. Jesus said, " I am the way, the truth and the life, no man comes to the Father, except though me." And that's the truth.

there is a big difference between tolerance and adherence. I can tolerate anybody's belief so long as it does not jeopardize my own. I cannot adhere to more than one belief system, however. Being the fervent believer in Christianity that I am, I see it as my duty to tell others about my faith and to warn them of the errors of their ways according to my beliefs. A preacher that does not preach his faith is dead.

agnostic i never believe in that. You know what none of the religions tell its followers to kill each other.Everyine says to follow your religion and at the same time to respect others.its that some people take it as a ego and try to show to others and prove that their religion is the best. When somebody does not accept they just go on fighting. And killing.Think about it.Its just like two peple fighting to show each other that they are better than each other.True followers of God will never kill in the name of God.They will have tolerance and will give water to a dying man no matter what his religion is!!!!

Its not a matter of losing your beliefs or tolerating others.
All beliefs are human created ,constructions of thought based on the desires of what one wants and because this is true there is no point in believing in any of them.
SHAME ON YOU PREACHER>>"Being the fervent believer in Christianity that I am, I see it as my duty to tell others about my faith and to warn them of the errors of their ways according to my beliefs"<<
you are helping the guilty get out of the punishment they deserve.
that's obstructing Justice
you do that>>"warn them of the errors of their ways according to my beliefs"<<
because u are guilty and want get out of the punishment u deserve
nothing but a desire driven belief

Yes, if we consider other beliefs, we might fall into them. (I mean we, as a people, not specifically me) Read Deuteronomy 7. Of course, we still tolerate other beliefs, we just don't consider them.
