If you believe that -- well, then you believe something and your premise is gone.
So, I guess we need to believe something -- even if it is Food-->Good or Sex-->Good -- or even the opposite.

You don't. Any belief system is a way of focusing on the past and the future there by ignoring the present.
Just be a kind and compassionate person now and everything else will take care of its self.
Any God that would want you to spend so much time judging things that had already happened would be missing the point of life grandly anyway.
You are here to live your life and respond to the situations that confront you Lovingly. You can't do this if you are focused on a bunch of conflicting nonsense rules. All that is necessary is that you love your neighbor like Jesus asked us to do. The only way that you can do this is if you are firmly planted in the time called now.
Love and blessings

And if it is so good then we feel that there is something more to it.
Most religions acknowledge that there is something in the present moment that is so valuable that we need to say thankyou.
And if the present moment is so good then why shouldnt it continue forever?
Sin is the opposite. We focus on the selfish rewards here and now and dont care what will happen in the future.

Essentially we don't.
I guess we could just go on our daily business and it wouldn't hurt anyone as long as we were being nice to ourselves and to everyone else around us.
However, I saw an advert for a TV programme in the UK that said that our brains are actually programmed so we would believe in SOMETHING whatever that may be. Hope this helps.

Belief is how we are, not a need. What you wrote, about life being the moment...that's what you BELIEVE.

You don't need to believe in anything. It is just as easy (or hard) to lead a spiritually, emotionally and philosophically fulfilling life as an athiest as it is as a religious individual.

Because you alredy do, if a person tells you: On the other side of the border is Mexico.
i think you'll believe there is a country named Mexico.
If the person seems trustworthy and you had never been there.

To fully experience the now we should focus on this life and not be distracted by possible future lives.

That's a good question. I guess people thousands of years ago thought that the sunrise was so weird that something had to make it happen.
