When you scan through the Religious & Spirituality section of Yahoo Answers, it’s very obvious there are messages and messengers. It’s also very obvious the majority of Religious Believers attack the messenger rather than the message. Religious people tell non-believers they are sinners, Satan’s children dammed to Hell, must repent or they will be tortured for eternity unless they change their way and start believing in God.
On the other hand, Non-Believers tend to break down the message into its commonsense and logical parts, debate and dispute the details, and try their best to offer a hand of compassion and guidance to the messenger. Non-believers offer condolence and sympathy to religious people in the hope they will find a better and happier life if they would just stop believing in God and walk away from religion.
Why do most religious people attack the messenger rather than trying to understand the message, and behave in a decent manner like non-believers?

Wow! Let me start by saying that I'm a Christian, but I don't consider myself religious--religion is a corruptible institution established by man; religious people crucified Christ. Personally, I don't try to attack nonbelievers. We are all sinners. I'm just forgiven. Many times Christians get really passionate about the message of Jesus' love and they are not trying to attack, just inform. The truth about the message is... there are two sides: God's and the devil's. There is no in between. After the fall of Adam, we were all sentenced to death because sin cannot exist in the presence of God. The only way to stop this was for God to come to Earth in the form of Jesus Christ and live a perfect life. He took all the sins of the world (past, present, and future) and placed them on Jesus. When Jesus died a perfect death and had a perfect resurrection He earned the right to save us from God. That's why if you don't except Jesus, your sins are not forgiven and you cannot have eternal life. We don't judge you, we just want you saved from the having the same fate as the devil and his fallen angels.
Do Christians get sad? Yes we do, but don't get it twisted--we aren't miserable. I am happier now than I have ever been. Before I was a true Christian, I would walk around with all my friends and nice things, but I was still missing something. Not anymore. I pray that my words will bring comfort to someone reading them, in Jesus' name. Amen.

Well, I think you're generalizing just a tad here... Sure, many Christians are condemming of non-believers, but they have obviously gotten something wrong. The message of the Bible is love and respect for EVERYone. Unfortunately, there are people using Christianity to make themselves feel superior. That's really an upside down look at the religion. God says clearly that he loves and cares extra for the non-believers. Of course, every Christian's goal is to save as many people as possible, since we see it as a crucial necessity. But you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar, and so the people you are talking of are in fact undermining Christianity and giving the rest of us Christians a horrible reputation. So now you know, some of us are actually rational, sane people. :-)

The message which you gave at the very beginning of your question explanation is most certainly the truth from the Word of God. We can either believe upon the Lord Jesus Christ, and spend eternity in Heaven with Him; or we can refuse to believe in Him, and spend eternity in Hell. And this is not just my words, but this is God's Words. I believe that it is as plain to you, that there is no breaking down to be done. It is just the truth in simple speech. Some non-believers may be sympathetic as can be, but this still does not save their soul. This is done only by believing in Jesus, and accepting Him as your personal Savior. This goes for every person upon the earth.

Because people are so desperate to win people over for Jesus that they don't care what they have to do in order to add another to their list of people they've saved. They feel that if they've saved x number of people that they're going to heaven, when they would benefit by taking a look in the mirror and remember what Jesus said: "Whoever is without sin may cast the first stone." Just think about it.

I think it is something innate in human psychology. Relatively few people really understand how to do science: that you spend far more energy trying to tear down a theory than you do trying to set it up. But there are a lot of people, who, having made up their minds, simply prefer not to be bothered by anything as inconvenient as a fact.

Which message is that? Eternal punishment for people who are supposed to have "free will" but in fact do not?

Why do you ask why to questions you know are a waste of time. Let's face it, you're just trying to be spiritual when in fact sitting at your computer is not.
