Why do people think their religion is the one and only? You might believe it but why would you go on record to say that Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism, and others is the one true one? Doesn't it depend on when and where you were born?

If you were born in North America 3,000 years ago, you'd worship whatever your tribe did. If you were born in India now, most likely you'd be a Hindu. If you were born in Macedonia during Alexander's reign, you'd worship a group of gods. If you were born in South America in the early 1900's you'd be Christian. Isn't this so obvious? So then why do people think their God and belief is the most natural and logical belief that one can have and furthermore that it was the way it always was and will always be?
That's not to say that there is or isn't a God, but why one God and not the other? Why don't people at least see it's dependant on time, place and temperment and not on some "truth?"

If religion is responsible for morals and ehtics, then why have we had so many wars, starvation, oppression, rape and misery in history? 95% of all people believe (or believed) in a God or God's yet that didn't prevent them from commiting horrible acts. Or were those the exceptions but everyone else was religious and good?

very good point. i think it has a lot to do with a brainwash factor. many people taught this from early childhood its all theyve ever known. thats why they get defensive of it, cause your questioning something that they were taught is factual. with exception to the older people who convert later for whatever reasons (be it peer pressure, or their life is a big headache and they need a sugar pill to make it better) whatever the reason, outside influence is how you get to your specified religion, so yes where your from, who your around is whats going to affect your religion.

As a girl be born Jewish and then reborn Muslim, there is not a word God has changed in any of his true religions. The first command of Torah is "there is no God but only ONE God". In Islam the first word says in praying is also the same. Unfortunately the true humanities is rare. The history from 1000 years ago shows that Stupid people have been using their bad deeds under the flag of Religion. Also %90 of people use their ignorant opinion without studding and searching to learn the true Path.

We are human, and humans are sinners, therefore there will be sin. This makes being a Christian so difficult because all we want to do is spread God's word because it is truth. And I guarantee if you did studying of the Bible and examined prophesy and our world you would see that. But this world and society is so against us. I am so tired I honestly just pray that God would take us home now so that we wouldn't have to answer to ppl who refuse to see. I pray that the rapture happens in your lifetime, then when many ppl disappear for no reason, you will know what happened, and you will be given another chance, but I warn you that after the rapture are the seven years that will be the worst the world will ever see, so please don't hold off on believing, its so easy, because God wants you to believe in Him. And for what reason do you hold back so much. Stop thinking like the World, for anyone who is of the world is not of God. That is why we stay true to our faith and don't accept others that are of the world.

I agree. Some people may convert outside of the native religion, but there is little evidence of people actually choosing their religions. Instead, people are having them chosen for them by the area they live or were born in.

Religion is socially constructed, but beliefs are not. I think that is why so many people question their religion and do some searching. And because religion is socially constructed, that is why it makes conversion or disbelief so difficult.

Why can't you ask a question you legitimately want an answer to? You're just ranting and raving. And while I completely agree with you, you're not really looking for an answer.

I'm sure you stand for nothing on your own. I'm sure you have no beliefs. I'm sure that if I began insulting your mother, you wouldn't defend her.
