well very gud question from u dude, well to start with God is a universal term that is defined by every religion in there own way, the ulitimate thing is which ever way u define it there is only God in this world that takes up different faces as it is said.To fear from God means that when ever we do anything wrong and there is no one to correct our flaws or when ever are doing injustice to other person or beating him brutely in short when doing all bad things it is said that fear to GOD he is watching u and will punish in some or other way, and the next part of it is yet not be afraid of is term used when somebody is in distress, helpless or when in deep trouble like when his/her close realitives are in operation theatre for operation at that time we say dont wory GOD is with u he will do every thing ok, in short whenever any good things are being asked for or paryed with true feelings from heart to GOD at this context this term is used "Dont be afraid of HIM(God)" like whenever u are doing any thing correct thing in ur life why to be afraid of anything likewise whenever u ask from ur gud heart to GOD it is always fuffilled and at that time u dont have to be worried or afraid of it or HIM (GOD).

To fear God means to have a very deep respect for Him. It is awe that is contibuted to the fact that he is so great and power and we are so weak in comparison. It does not mean or the more modern definition of fear.
To be afraid means to scared or frightened.
Hope that helps!
God bless!

When the Bible speaks of fearing God, it is not necessarily speaking of being afraid of God; but giving Him the respect which He deserves. Even though God does not want us to go around being afraid of what God is going to do to us, He does want us to realize that He has the power to do all things. We should think of God as the mighty hand Who watches over us, and to whom we will one day have to give account of our life to. And if we live our life the way in which He wants us to live it, we do not have to be afraid. He tells us in 2 Tim. 1:7, that He has not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

I was confused about this at first too, but to fear God really means more to respect, or be in awe of. We are to see him as a father that we can love and talk to, but also realize that if He wanted to he could smash this world with His thumb. Not that He would do that I am just saying that we have to remember His power, and not take it lightly. Its like having a role model that you really admire, you look up to them and respect them and act very respectively around them, so you fear them in a way. But you are not actually scared to be around them.

Fearing God and bein afraid r 2 different things
The fear of God is a reverential fear, the king of fear you show, say, your pastor or principal
regular fear is being absolutely terrfied of something
God is our protector so we need not be afraid, but he is also our father, so we'd better see that we don't dis Him!

Since fear is a constitutive element of the human being it must be used to ensure the person's sense of safety in the midst of a relity of uncertainty. We fear almost everything but God, only to discover that that what we fear is what befall us, and that whom we fear is the one who ultimately control us. Fearing God is building up on the ultimate grounds for morality: God as the source of human dignity and worth.

To "fear" God is to have a reverent respect for God, not to literally FEAR Him. It's a healthy respect akin to the respect we all had for our earthly fathers growing up (at least you should have had) yet much, much more.

Look at it this way, you are not afraid of being around your parents, right? because you know they love you and care for you. But if you go and do something you know you shouldn't, then you have a fear of what may be the consequences for your actions.
