It's one of the reasons. Matthew 10:28 - "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell." But it's healthy fear. Just like we fear breaking the law because we will be punished if we do. We're not actually petrified about it, but that fear keeps us safe and in line.
Another reason for believing in God is just plain love. Loving someone who gave up so much for you isn't unheard of or weird, is it? God sent His Son to die for my sins, and I choose to believe and love Him for it.
I don't really consider my belief as something arising from fear, or brainwashing, or whatnot. I just see it as FAITH.

No, I don't agree.
Your consciense can judge all it wants. What good is that going to do? It is not going to get you into heaven. Neither is doing right all the time which is impossible anyway. You need forgiveness. You need Jesus. He is the only way. When you have Jesus, there is no need to fear anything.

It doesnt make you undesirable in case you dont beleive. the rustic became built on religious ideals yet over years God has been bumped off by society. we've lots indoors the way of scientific concept that still removes God from any equation of bobbing up the worldwide or guy for that count style style style. Now i think of in case you beleive it comes out of your loved ones and somewhat no the situation else. No in case you dont beleive and there's a god im particular he's responsive to. Now God is declared to be forgiving and merciful so dont difficulty too lots approximately it.

The 'fear of God' is not a trembling on the floor, pee in your pants, frightened to death FEAR OF GOD kind of FEAR. NO! Its a fear of displeasing him.
OK, remember when you were a kid and you did something, like studied REALLY hard for a test or worked really hard on a project and then you didn't get a good grade and you were 'afraid' to tell your parents? You were afraid of letting them down, weren't you? The "fear of God" is a fear of letting him down, of not pleasing him or making him happy. Its not a fear of getting him ANGRY or that he'll strike you down or smite you , as some put it. Its a fear of dissapointing him.
And NO< not everyone has a conscience TRAINED to tell them what is right and wrong. In fact, right now , on Dr. Phil there is a cult on that thinks PROSTITUTION FOR JESUS is a GOOD thing!! Good grief- how could anyone in their right mind think that such a thing would be acceptable to God or Jesus? But see, that is how their consciences have been falsely trained to believe the wrong things. To learn what you really need to train your conscience to know, you need to study the teachings of God and His Son Jesus Christ in the Bible. And it just isn't he Ten Commandments, there is so much mroe to it than that. There is to love your neighbor and to love God with your whole heart, soul and body. But you need to know HOW to love your neighbor and to love God; in TRUTH and RIGHTEOUSNESS. In Knowledge and understanding. You don't just get that from Sunday school. You get that from an in depth study of the scriptures. If you would like to learn more about things concerning the scriptures, feel free to email me , I"d be more than happy to answer questions you might have.

I don't believe fear is the reason. Why should I fear a God who created me and all that I can see? For me, I want to believe that there is something out there that isn't pure evil, something or someone that is actually loving and compassionate. Part of the "fear" is not knowing. And you don't really know what's beyond the living until you're there.

God is love, not fear. So no i don't agree. We judge ourselves and others much more harshly than God does so I would fear that judgement as opposed to God's..

It's one of the reasons. Religions, including Christianity, like to use the stick and carrot approach. "Fear of God" and "Hell" are the stick, as well as being ostracized by other Christians. The carrot is the vague promise of rewards after you're dead and vague promises of prayers being answered. There are also other reasons, but they, too, are emotional in nature.

No. Fear is the mother of violence. So says Peter Gabriel.
Mortality is the reason for belief in a god. I still do not believe.

your conscience GUIDES you in right and wrong, and you make the decision. However if you truly believe in god you act under his authority and act under his guidence rather than that of a person. we all make mistakes but your dedication to god allows you to be forgiven. your conciense will be really easy on you and you may feel better and have less fear, but where do you think you're going on judgement day?
