My boyfriend and I live in a 2nd floor apt. The lady downstairs has put notes on our front door to keep the footsteps and noise down. We DONT have partys or play loud music, shes says to keep the noise to a minimum after 7 she wants to relax. The thing is we're not loud ppl, now i'm afraid to even walk around. What can we do about this, shes trying to telling us how to behave in our own apt!? Does anyone know the laws about these kind of things? Thanks in advance.

I am the one that always comes up with the great ideas...they will ignore my email...and then two weeks later claim that they have a great idea for a gift and it will be my idea! They ignore my emails and I am just trying to help. How do you deal with catty women like this? I married their brother and they are jealous of that I know (I have been told by the mom). I want them to know they do not bother me although they do....help!

I'm a production manager working on a project with my right-hand girl who is very helpful but has a BIG attitude when she is frusterated. She doesn't communicate her reasoning for it; just gives attitude. She gave me 2 wks notice a month ago. I held a going away happy hour for her & the next day - she changed her mind about quiting. I told her if she is going to stay, she'll need to adjust her attitude & communicate when something is bothering her. Now.. she is giving attitude again. I've considered promoting her to supervisor but this prevents that from happening.

Should I even bother pulling her aside & talking or just pull her off the project? She does a great job but not sure if I can deal with her $#it..

I am going with my bf at thanksgiving to visit his family in another state. We have been together almost 2 years and I have only met his mom once and she didnt even talk to me. He has told me he wants me to either call her "mama" or Mrs. P* because he feels it would be disrespectful to call her by her 1st name. I really don't feel comfortable calling her mama since I don't know her and she has said some hurtful things about me in the past. But he says if I try to call her Mrs. P* she will just tell me to call her mama. Do I just suck it up and call her mama even though I am extremely uncomfortable with it?

We have known each other 2 years, and we are talking and together, but for some reason, we don't know each others work numbers. We have never asked, we have never shared. Is that odd/bad?

We are accesible through cell phone/email though and that has never been a problem. But do you think it is good manners to share work numbers with the person in your life?

Should I share it even if he hasn't, incase it's an emergency? I have started to feel a bit guilty about it.

Personal calls are allowed here but ofcourse, have to be kept really short, esp. because I am here at the front desk and I have to take phone calls to the company all day. Plus he is a sweet, sensible guy and not someone who will hound me, so I know I can trust him with the number.

Your thoughts?

I see so many useful answers and patient people actually helping others with homework, projects, personal questions. But how do those helped show thanks?

Can I suggest that at least those in the UK consider a small donation to next week's Children in Need appeal by way of a fee in gratitude. In other countries there may well be similar fund raisers too.

It is good to share your knowledge with those who have yet to acquire it. It is also good to share your wealth with those who are needy.

I'm seriously asking this question because it seems that there are so many answers that users leave that are belittling, and do not help the asker what-so-ever.

So, I put this honest question on the table...why don't you answer the question as it was asked? Why add an offensive opinion? Why be animus?

Okay, so there's a teacher who really tries all of our nerves. He's unfair and mean sometimes, yet can twist the truth and your words around until you don't remember what you were talking about. I have treated this teacher with nothing but respect since the day I joined his class, but after four years of this, I'm sick of it.

I know the right and honorable thing to do would be to stick up for my friends, and defend them when the teacher is in the wrong, but I'm afraid that the conflict will become disrespectful. What do I do?

My friend's mom died. This is my first ever funeral so I'm lost. What am I suppose to wear and what flowers are appropriate? I have a pair of black slacks and a black business suit jacket. Is that appropriate for a funeral? Also I was thinking instead of flowers I was going to make a condolence poster. In Loving Memory of.. Her mom's picture and name along with a lot of tiny pictures from the old days. Her mom participated in a lot of our school's activities. Then we all sign it at the funeral. Is that a good idea or should I bring flowers instead. Also I want to bring a friend along. The thing I'm dreading is my friend that I want to bring along is Jewish. He's since become orthodox. My friend who's mom died is Mormon and it's at a church. Shoudl I bring my friend along? They knew each other back in high school but haven't talked since.

I was on the subway (NY) coming home for work and these two twenty-something business guys were yapping non-stop about stupid stuff, really loudly next to me and an older woman. One of the men kept saying the "F" word really loud many times and this old lady was obviously offended. She was like 60. So I looked at the guy and simply said, "Will you stop it?" He looked back at me like he couldn't believe I said anything. Then he just kept talking and talking but he didn't say the "F" word again, but he didn't acknowledge that I had said anything to him either.

When I told my friend what happened he thought I was stupid for speaking to someone on the subway and that I should have kept my mouth shut. What do you think?

I've been to kentucky before, but i really dont know too much about the "southern lifestyle". Is it that much different from jersey? I've also been told that they "hunt and kill my kind for sport", (i'm wiccan, kinda goth, few body piercings/tattoo). What is the easiest way for me to merge into the culture, blend in, find a job, and make some new friends down there? As it stands now i only know my boyfriend and 2 other people.
Also, i'm a hairdresser here in Jersey, i've only had my license for a year, so i know i have to go back to school out there as well. Does anyone know the specifics on cosmetology laws out there?

I am interested to know how people (ladies mainly but I'm sure it applies to everyone) feel when someone else orders food for them. I find it incredibly rude, especially as I am a fussy eater and have some mild food allergies and generally do not like the food being ordered for me. I was wondering if others think it is sweet or chivalrous.
