i took a friend to lunch today. we ate and she wanted to smoke so i gave her the keys to my car and i went to pay, i was waiting in line and had to use the restroom so i slipped out of line and went to the restroom. i came out and just left. i completely forgot to pay. i didn't even realize it until i got home tonight and found more money in my wallet than should have been there. It took me forever to figure out why and now i know and i feel so bad. i called the cafe but it is closed. Should i take the money in tomorrow, call first or what? i feel really bad.

Yeah, sure go in tomorrow, or if it's a crowded place where you can't explain without other customers overhearing, you could of course call them instead and send them a check by mail or just drop it off while you've already done your explaining by phone.

It was stupid but we've all done similar things I'm sure, admitting you were scatter-brain (at least for a moment :)) and apologizing would be a good thing to but there's no need to be embarrassed in front of several strangers.

Go back and pay. You will feel better. The cafe spent money to feed you. Tipping the waitress is important, but the kitchen staff is paid by the cafe, as well as the food cost.

okay... if you feel like your conscience can't bear with it, then, go back and pay the café because there's that big possibility that if you don't... well, let me just say that the cashier will be blamed for everything even if it's not their fault because it's their responsibility. all i can say is that you won't get any richer if you keep the money though. it depends on you if you'll forget about it or act like a good samaritan should. it would be nicer though, and maybe the management will reward you for that. ;) hoped i helped you! :)

Go back and explain to them what happened and apologize and pay the bill. They will remember you next time and you may a complimentary drink or something for being so honest. Even if not they will admire you for it.

I like the idea of calling first thing to let them know you're coming, and then go in tomorrow. I think it's great that you care about this, and I think you'll be happy that you did the honest thing.

Of course, because you now realize that you didn't pay so anything other wise would be like stealing. Well at least I would definitely go back and pay.

Go back at around the same time you did the night before and look for your waiter/waitress and explain what happened, apologize to him/her because they most probably paid for it, then pay for your meal.

Life is too short to feel bad. Go in and pay tomorrow.

call them first thing- there are often tickets written up that will come out of the attending waiter/ waitresses pocket if not paid- let them know what happened and about what time so they can locate the ticket and let them know when you will be in to take care of it
