I'm a production manager working on a project with my right-hand girl who is very helpful but has a BIG attitude when she is frusterated. She doesn't communicate her reasoning for it; just gives attitude. She gave me 2 wks notice a month ago. I held a going away happy hour for her & the next day - she changed her mind about quiting. I told her if she is going to stay, she'll need to adjust her attitude & communicate when something is bothering her. Now.. she is giving attitude again. I've considered promoting her to supervisor but this prevents that from happening.

Should I even bother pulling her aside & talking or just pull her off the project? She does a great job but not sure if I can deal with her $#it..

I would let her know that her attitude is what stopping her from moving on in her career. maybe that will straighten her out. some people need to feel the lost to get their act straight. when she feel like you are going to promote someone else over her because of this she may change. and if she doesn't then you need to tell her she may be fired because you all need to be professional.

You should really talk to her one more time if she doesn't change
You really have to pull her out, she's not really helping this way. She maybe good in working but still her personality is in the way. It's hard to work with someone who has an attitude problem

I would just have only a "This is the work and this is the deadline" transaction with her for sometime until I can casually discuss the atitude problem w.r.t her next promotion opportunity to check if she is open for discussion.
If she is not open for discussion, I will continue with the work/deadline transaction and forget about promoting her until she matures.

If she is an asset to your company then you should make the effort to work with her.
Let her know that you value her work but her attitude is holding her back and endangering her job.
