I think it's essential to wash your hands in the kitchen sink when you're about to prepare food, put away clean dishes, or after cleaning up a cooking mess or taking out the trash.
Going into the bathroom to wash your hands before preparing food in the kitchen just doesn't make sense to me. I don't prepare my food IN the sink, it's used for dirty dishes, food scraps, and whatever else we all put in the sink. I have a dishwasher so I don't have to wash my dishes in the sink, but even when I did, I would sanitize the sink first.
I've never heard of this concern before, and I still can't imagine why it would be bad manners. I'm trying real hard to figure a situation that involves JUST the kitchen sink.
I keep liquid soap by the kitchen sink because I'm constantly washing my hands after doing "non-bathroom related" things. lol!
I'd MUCH rather wash my hands in the kitchen before handling food than in the bathroom sink! Gross!!

I don't know about it being bad manners to wash your hands in the kitchen sink, but i work in the food industry and there is always a seperate sink for hand washing so there must be something in the 'not washing' in the sink business.
I would tend not to wash my hands in the kitchen sink unless it was from cooking related business , but i also wouldnt have fifty fits over it either LOL

Sometimes it doesn't make since if the bathroom sink is near, or you just came from there, but really, what's it matter? ESPECIALLY if you are cooking dinner with raw chicken or something... why go all the way to the bathroom to wash your hands? I do it all the time, even keep HAND soap at the kitchen sink, next to the DISH soap.
So I vote No, not bad manners.

Wash my hands in the restroom most of the time. Kitchen sink only after I'm done with washing the dishes.

I do it all the time. I have 3 bathrooms, none of them on the main floor of the house (live in a quad-level). Its easier to just go to the kitchen sink and wash my hands than it is to run up or down the stairs to a bathroom. Of course, when I do use the bathroom, I do wash my hands!

I don't think it's bad manners at all. If you were a man and saw how many men leave public restrooms after using the urinals and the stalls without washing their hands you would rejoice in jubilation just to see them washing their hands. When I prepare a meal I would rather see people wash their hands than have to wonder if they did or not.

I would say 100% of people do it. If we can't wash our hands in the kitchen sink, the world might as well come to an end.

If your not in your own kitchen cooking or preparing something to eat.... Yes it is bad manners. If you are helping someone prep food in their kitchen no. Think of it this way..... I invite someone over for a football game and they get up to use the bathroom. When they come out they go straight to my kitchen sink and wash their hands. Unless the sink doesn't work in the bathroom or we're out of soap....Keep your grubby mitts out of my kitchen sink!!!

I don't think it’s bad manners, and anyways our hands end up being washed in kitchen sink eventually.
EDIT: But it is weird if you come out the B.R and wash your hands in the K. sink. That's not tasteful, well unless for some reason there is no sink in the B.R. What do you agree with?....just curious.

I wash my hands in the kitchen sink all the time. After feeding the dogs, during/after meal preparation, after doing the dishes, taking out the garbage, etc. I don't see why it would be considered "bad manners," after all you are washing your hands, isn't that good hygiene?
