I'm seriously asking this question because it seems that there are so many answers that users leave that are belittling, and do not help the asker what-so-ever.

So, I put this honest question on the table...why don't you answer the question as it was asked? Why add an offensive opinion? Why be animus?

Sometimes they are trying to be funny. Sometimes they are answering the question to the best of their abilities. And of course there are some people who are more concerned with getting their opinion across than actually helping.

They do it because they think they are funny.
They get some cheap laugh from posting some idiotic comment and insulting the asker.

Warped senses of humor tend to use a question that they find fault with as a springboard for a humorous comment. (Sometimes, its humorous just to them, but they still find it funny, so they run with it.)
