Etiquette - September 2006

I recently moved out of the city to get away from the noise and confusion. We found a quiet little place off the beaten path...it seemed almost too good to be true. Our only neighbor was an older lady who worked 3rd shift at a hospital. Well, she up and moved a month ago and the new owners are - to put it bluntly - a real pain in the A**!

They have 3 loud four-wheelers, 4 screaming kids, 1 insane dog, and the man is constantly running either a chainsaw or some other gas-powered implement of destruction. At this point, they are, thankfully, leaving before dark, but they leave the stupid dog which barks all night long. I can't wait until they are fully moved in. I thought about going over there, but I saw the owner with a rifle the other day, and I kind of want to stay on his "good side". PLEASE help me! I can only drink so much alcohol...now I can't even enjoy my day off!

I wonder what happened to an old classmate I knew in college 10 years ago. This is completely platonic interest. I have an email I think is hers, but I haven't used it yet.

Is it okay to contact old classmates, or is there some sort of rule that you can't contact an opposite sex classmate after you graduate? All I would say is "how have you been, what's happened in your life?".

I know some people can go apesh** over this kind of thing, but it doesn't make a lot of logical sense, really. I'm just curious.

Mine was trying to take a sip of water but my hand was so shaky that they all saw me spill a bit. From then on I decided to keep my hands under the table no matter how thirsty I was!! I didn't get the job, by the way, but I don't think that was the reason....

It is known that young kids pee in pools, I am curious if any girls or ladies peed in a pool this summer? Did you do it because you didn't feel like going into the house or was a bathroom not available or too far away? Was it at a private or a public pool?

Bathrooms, that is.

Is it okay if the bowl is dirty.

It seems like the more adults there are around to watch the kids, the more they are left to run wild. Should I have to run after people's kids when they come to visit, while the parents ignore them. Our home is not exactly "child proof" any more.

behind an old person in a queue at the supermarket, they either always pay in very small change or pay the small amount in cash and put the rounded off figure like a fiver on a debit card? It's so annoying!

Especially when using the phrase: "here you go, ma'am" or when allowing a lady to pass through a door first.

I went out with some friends last weekend and everything was worked out to the last penny, from the sainsbury's receipt for the pizzas to the pay-per-view film we watched in the evening. I found it quite bizarre, I was happy just to divide things roughly and if I ended up paying a bit more, so what?!

Say you were with a friend, family member, spouse, etc..and they ran into someone that they knew..gender's not important or anything. And they don't introduce you for one reason or another. Does it offend you?

Sure, the blanket answer should be "let fate decide", "be yourself", yadda yadda...
But in this case, I am an American engineer working in Costa Rica and have never been immersed in Latin culture before. And to really make things difficult, alot of men come here from the States to be complete pigs with the beautiful women who seem to be everywhere. I have found someone incredible, she is everything I could ever want in a woman and more. And she feels the same attraction.

My question: What can I do to NOT screw this up and appear like every other chauvenist from my country? I know nothing about the dating ettiquette or what might or might not offend her. It's cheesy I know, but I could really use some input on this. Oh wise denizens of Yahoo's caverns of knowledge!

Buddha taught all suffering arises from desire and aversion (attachments)

Wouldn't you rather be able to laugh at your death, then get all upset about it? Why choose unhappiness and suffering?
