Not only that but it makes me a little uncomfortable standing there like some slug.

No. I guess my ego's too big; I always assume that the person thinks that the person would annoy me or not be worth my time, so that's why they don't introduce me.
I've been in situations where the person asks or begs to be introduced, which makes the person in the middle uncomfortable. If it is someone that I wouldn't mind meeting or whom I think won't be any trouble, I just introduce myself. That has never caused any problems.

Yes, My husband does it all the time. I seem that both of us look at each other and trying to find out who we are. It bothers me pretty bad. i sometimes do the same thing if i don't know there name or i will say " this is my husband so and do . and usually the other person will introduce themselves.

Yes that does offend me particulary because if I'm with anyone I always make it a point to introduce my acquaintances to one another. Its just the proper thing to do as far as I'm concerned.

YES!!! Very much so.... I always introduce others. Its funny when you stand there and see the other person looking just as uncomfortable as you. I just reach across and do it myself. Usually this makes the person who should of done the introducing feel rude........but you get that!!

yes.
they are either nonverbally telling the person they know that you are not important enough to introduce, or they are uncertain how long you will be around and they don't want to delare a commitment to knowing you by introducing you.
it also could be that you are to be kept a secret like "dont ask, dont tell".
whoever that is that pretended you were invisible, get rid of them!

I would take the opportunity to introduce myself, at the appropriate time.

No but i can understand if you do. I've done it before, but not because i was rude but because i forgot the person's name. Why don't you just introduce yourself, make it light and casual. I know its happened to me before, someone comes up and is like hey Nara!, i'm like hey...buddy, how are you? and my wife steps in, hi i'm Jane, you are?? and she gets the name, and i'm like yeah, me and jimmy went to HS together...blah blah blah, she saves me a lot.

Nah, they probably were not thinking about it. Besides, I have no problem in introducing myself.
