behind an old person in a queue at the supermarket, they either always pay in very small change or pay the small amount in cash and put the rounded off figure like a fiver on a debit card? It's so annoying!

That old person is probably on a fixed income, and has to carefully budget money. That person has had to work very hard for everything, and fully understands that money does not grow on trees. I am not old, and if I am at the supermarket, and I only need $10 worth of stuff, I will still write a check. I know that annoys people, but I don't care, because I keep close track of every penny spent. Don't be in such a hurry in life, it only takes an extra minute or 2.. instead of viewing her as an old lady, how about trying a different perspective, like a 'wise woman who has much to offer and teach the youth'. It is a cliche, but take time to smell the roses, time is limited for all of us, why rush it?

Zippy R, You can tell by the answers who's american and who's British, can't you. Old people are always complaining they don't sleep and that's why tesco is open 24 hours. But they don't go at night do they? No, they go in my lunch break.
Good luck.

Why in the world would you care one way or another.

Don't you find it far more annoying that young people working as a cashier cannot count change?

Stop stressing. You're not old enough to understand their attitude towards money. It's alot more precious to them than it is to you. How many times have I heard old people complaining about how obsessed young people are by their looks. Different generations, different priorities.

Learn some patience, there are times in life when you just have to wait. The next time this bothers you, remember that could be your grandmother or your mother and one day, that may be you.
