I've been helping poor people around me myself by giving them money. I never contributed in any charity and don't like so too. But now i've moved to UK and don't know how to find needy people around me myself. I've tried to find some deserving but couldn't find coz of govt. pays them it seems. I am not sure. if someone can help. i dun want to pay to any charity at the moment.

OK, so my older sister found a few churches for sale in our area- the smaller one at $290,000 and the larger at $350,000 (we like this one better because of more parking space/building size). We would like to turn it into a center for everyone, that will provide lots of free services for the needy, work in conjunction with other not-for-profit organizations in the area, and also be a spiritual (though not specifically religious) center. I think this is a great cause.

While we can get a mortgage and/or loans, our family is certainly not poor- our father (there are three daughters) is a wealthy businessowner. However, we don't have the money to just point-blank buy it, because our father may not be willing to invest. This is a lot of money. How might we get some help in paying? Possibly community fundraisers? I mean, if we begin an official organization, we can raise money and get donations and partnerships... any other ideas or similar stories? We are in Rochester, NY.

I was kicked out my house a while back, im 16 and i was living in a rough neighbour hood in a decreped hotel. One night i woke up and vividly heard a man calling a ambulance just outside my door "i think hes had a heart attack".

Now i know CPR like the back of my hand, but i did nothing i just went back to sleep knowing full well that i was probably the only person who could save him.

Turns out he was fine but thats not the point.

I am helping to organise a summer gala to raise much needed funds for Royston Animal Welfare (a registered charity). The gala will be held in Royston, Barnsley, South Yorkshire on 12th August 2007. We are looking for traders to rent a stall in order to sell their goods.
Is there anywhere i can obtain a list of such people who have businesses like this? An association perhaps?
Or do you know anyone who would be interested in attending?
Please contact me via answering this question and i will provide an e-mail address for anyone who is interested to get more info.

Thanks.

Well I am here in the Ak doing a winter caretaking gig at a fishing lodge. 4 days ago our pipes froze. They sent somebody out to try and thaw them..after 4 hours yesterday and 12 today no luck. Looks like we are SOL until end of April when our contract is up. So no showers, clean dishes, clothes, flushing toliet. I thought the isolation and boredom was bad...now I am REALLY gonna loose it! Any suggestions..stories..encouragement???

It has come to light that out of all the celebritys that take part in children in need, only Terry Wogan draws a pay packet from The charity event. How many of the answers community think it is about time he was replaced with a celebrity that will do the job in the spirit of "charity"and let the money go to where it is needed.

I've just signed in for swimming to raise money for a hospital in my area. The problem is I have to find someone who will pay money for every metre I swim. Can I possibly ask for sponsorship from any company or smt like that ? because I really don't want to disturb my parents, friends and teachers. This is the 1st time I join a charity activity on my own so I'm really not sure what I should do. I'm looking forward to replies from anyone reading this msg. Thanks you guys a bunch !

I have been thinking about how much money women spend on hand bags for a while. If women donated the money and bought even a slightly cheaper purse, I feel a lot of money could go to good places. The other day I though about starting a group of women who choose one hand bag a month and raise the amount of money that the hand bag costs and then donate it to charity. For example, a gucci purse that costs, say, 700 dollars (we would have to start out smaller i think) is the object of the fund raising for the month. all the fund raisers would have a picture of the purse and information on the chosen charity and would try to raise money or donate their own. At the end of the month, we would calculate how much we made, and donate the amount of the purse (here, 700) plus whatever else we raised to the chosen charity. this would raise awareness about consumerism and women's causes. anyone interested?

I was just hanging around on youtube when i came across these! I've been against animal cruelty all my life, and am a strict veggie, but I had never seen anything like this before! It made my eyes litterally flood with tears and I barely ever cry! I feel so gulty and ashamed about what we do to these innocent creatures, and i found myself saying sorry again and again while watching! I desperately want to do something, does anyone have any idea what there is that i can take physical action to, because I simply have to but i don't know what there is! Please help me!!!!!
