I've just signed in for swimming to raise money for a hospital in my area. The problem is I have to find someone who will pay money for every metre I swim. Can I possibly ask for sponsorship from any company or smt like that ? because I really don't want to disturb my parents, friends and teachers. This is the 1st time I join a charity activity on my own so I'm really not sure what I should do. I'm looking forward to replies from anyone reading this msg. Thanks you guys a bunch !

Most small businesses and companies can help you get sponsorship for these types of activities.

For example, you might want to work with some of the small businesses in your area, and ask them to post some flyers for you, specifying the cause, and request for sponsorship.

In addition, local support from family and friends can be invaluable. I understand that you want to do this on your own, but the resources that family and friends can connect you with are equally valuable. You can get a lot of indirect support from this group.

Another thing to consider would be to work with your fellow swimmers to gain group sponsorship from larger companies in the area. Ask the managers of these companies if you can place a donation sign up list.

Also, if you have a web site, you might want to consider some of the on-line, direct support opportunities, like Chip-In.com

http://www.chipin.com

You can create a blog and get some on-line support directly from your readers.

Good luck!

First congratulations on volunteering, give yourself a pat on the back. Second, when doing things like this the best people to ask ARE your family, teachers, and friends. Since you seem like you may be in hs or something along those lines, your friends probably don't have a source of income so stick to family and teachers. You don't have to ask them to donate $20/meter, they can't donate something low. The next best is going to businesses because they are able to offer more and are more open to the community because they sort of owe social responsibility to their customers. Have guts, know what you are swimming for and how it will help and people will believe in your cause and want to support you. Good luck and I hope everything works out.
