I would suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. They specialize in connecting you with one-time, short-term, or long-term volunteer projects.

Through my volunteer center, I tutor children at the local library, enhance visitor experience at the local museum, work at the food bank packaging food, work at the children's shelter on arts & crafts projects and play games with the kids at the shelter as well.

Here are some links to help you find your volunteer center:

There are so many different projects and agencies that are out there, and your volunteer center can help connect you with pre-screened projects and non-profit agencies that match your interests.

If you can't find your local volunteer center, the United Way also provides some similar volunteer placement services:

Good luck!

You can always go to the veterans hospital or the nursing homes. You can also call an agency that helps elderly people and ask if there are people you could interview about their lives and write up a story for the organization's newsletter. Then you can get hours for visiting and a publication credit as well. You might even be able to use the interview for history class if you ask about life in the old days.

American Red Cross since it's health-related. Try working @ a Blood Drive. Some hospitals also have volunteer opportunities.

Churches are always in need of some sort of help whether it's the whole community (meaning the town) or the church community simply inside the church. I help out at different soup kitchens as well as various schools are always willing to open their doors to high school students to help out in the smaller class rooms.

Did you try the library? I know that my library is the main place where kids at my school volunteer.
