over the summer, I do not care if it is out of state; but it has to be an organization that I am volunteering for.

I suggest that you contact your local volunteer center. Volunteer Centers are non-profit organizations that connect you with different volunteer projects within your community, giving you the unique opportunity to make a variety of contributions to various projects under the same organization.

I'm on the board of directors for my volunteer center, and help out with volunteer education, orientation, marketing, and various other unique contributions like managing one the nation's first podcasts from a volunteer center.

Even if this isn't the organization you're looking for, the volunteer center can still help by connecting you with a specific agency that matches your interest, and may be local to your area.

Here are some links to help you get started:

Good luck!.

Volunteer in a position that you're going to at least enjoy. It's impossible to list all the volunteer possibilities out there. If you're into religion volunteer for a church, if you're interested in health care volunteer at a hospital, if you're interested in retail you could volunteer for Goodwill or the Salvation Army and work in their thrift stores. If you're handy with a hammer or want to learn, volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. Volunteering can also play a part in future resumes...or simply chose an organization that needs help. Maybe your local community needs volunteers? Ask around. Other great organizations are The Red Cross, various Alzheimer's agencies, Boy (Girl) Scouts, Big Brother (Sister) and so many others.
Whatever you choose, good luck to you.

Go to http://www.volunteermatch.org and check out whether there is a volunteer opportunity listed that interest you. The listing is quite extensive, and goes from local, state, National, or International. There are some Online Volunteer opportunities, which I must say it really can benefit many people who want to do something good for others, without having to leave your family, school/work.

I would visit the Americorps website. They have plenty of organizations that you can volunteer for a summer and ways to narrow down your search to get the exact volunteer program you are interested in.
