Are there other charity organisation who takes in old (hardly worn) clothes? I do not trust those rag & tag men. They seem interested in newspapers and old electronics only

Find a church or helping agency that seems to have a connection with Singapore and talk to them about your donations and ask their advice. However, according to this website http://www.lwr.org/parish/clothing.asp , it appears that many countries have altered their policies regarding used clothing imports; some are even prohibiting such imports. As an alternative, you can have a yard sale yourself and donate the money to a legitimate helping agency that assists Singapore directly.
Good luck to you.

Have you seen the movie 'clueless'. Like the movie where Miss 'Clueless' wants to donate her skiing equipment to the poor, most of what you want to give away are not what the poor can wear. Like evening gown for example. The salvation army has years of expertise on this. They even send the clothes for cleaning first. The alternative is to leave it at Blk 17 Toa Payoh. There is an old lady poking at rubbish dumps looking for things of value.
People in Bintan are very poor. Everything can be salvaged. Used clothing can be used as rags. Old spark plugs are never thrown away until it cannot fire anymore. Go there for a holiday but rbring back an empty suitcase.

One of my wife's friends use to work at Goodwill and they never washed the clothes. There wasn't a washing machine and the clothes just got put on a hanger for sale. The stories we heard from her were really bad and would make anyone think twice about getting something there. I don't know about the Salvation Army, but somehow I believe their organization would probably wash the clothes, but that's just a guess on my part. However, I would always wash the clothes that I was donating to any charity organizations.

Homeless shelters, Orphanages, Schools for the blind, Churches often keep clothes for fire victims, etc.
You are a good person for wanting to donate, rather than sell on consignment.
