Join up with Lion's International. We are not a charity, but the world's largest volunteer organization, we have 1.5 million members in 200 countries. We feed the homeless and help out with all community projects, locally, nationally and internationally. Go to the website, click on your language, click on club locator, choose your country, and nearest town. Contact the President of that club. If you have a problem, then please contact me, as I am the President of my club. The website will also give you more information about who we are and how we help others.

Please don't give them money directly - you don't know what they're going to spend it on and could end up supporting a drug habit making their already bad situation worse. Support a charity such as Shelter instead, they work with the homeless in a productive manner. You could volunteer at a local shelter if you want to be more hands on; the local Sally Army would probably be able to point you in the right direction.

try looking in the parks late at night, their are plenty of homeless people out there, don't give them money, give them food or clothes, but be careful, it's not the best way to go out on your own, I know I wouldn't do it.

It is best to find a place that's looks after the homeless, they are plenty around and you could help by talking to them, anything which goes on in these places but with the knowledge of being surrounded by other people who are there to help them, In Cornwall we have places called St, Petroc's there must be other places around. Also you could try the Salvation Army, or Churches, they would be able to advise you where to go and help people.

Stand on the street corner with a sandwich, and the homeless will flock to you, just like ants to spilled soda, rats to an open garbage can, etc. All vermin are motivated the same way.

I can't say for sure in UK since my experience is stateside but here we look for homeless folks by seeing what cars are parked late at night in far end of store parking lots and have someone sitting there for a long time, learning what time stores and fast food places put dsicarded food in dumpster and seeing who goes in after it, looking to see who is sleeping in the woods in certain parts of the state forest...if they are in a tent and there's an ice storm going on you can guess it's not by choice, seeing who is in the all night low cost food place most of the night nursing the same cup of coffee, riding behind shopping centers in poor areas...if a fellow is sleeping in a box he's not in it for the experience in most cases. Same would be true for ppl sleeping on park benches or likely fopr folks sleeping ion park in day since they may know they are less likely to get hasseled by the law if they become invisible at night and sleep days. Who is out on the benches in rotten weatehr. They may not have a better place to go. Have a sit down and chat with these ppl and see what they say after they open up a bit. It may be an education.

If you want something with lower risk and hassel go by places that help ppl with food and offer to stock shelves and while you're there ask if they have regulars (folks who often need help) who may have other needs. Visit a school and ask if there are kids you could buy clothes for and allow the school to present them - they won't give you the names bec of confidentiality and bec they don't know what sort or person you are. Ask a rector of a church in a poor area who might need some groceries or whatever. Ask ppl in a more rural area do they still have "roadmen" coming through. Roadmen is/used to be a UK term for homeless and wandering folks. Go by a hospital and sit in the clinic waiting room and see who comes in looking as if their clothes have only air between the threads. Go by a veternarian and ask if there are ppl who love their pets but struggle to afford their care.

Sit still and listen to folks around you on the underground and in pubs etc and you'll probably soon hear that such and such a place is getting run down and all sorts are there and a lot of ne're do wells are found in such and such.

If you do get involbved in a charity why not at least at first offer a couple of hours work so you can see for yourself if ppl are helped or offices flourished with your pence. You'll get a notion of the attitudes, the ppl that are helped and the type and quality of help. If it's a good one to you you can go back and if not you'll not waste your money.

Best method of all of course is to pray and ask God to lead you to ppl who are praying for help and really need it. You may be amazed at how specifically He will do that.

Thank you for caring and wanting to help ppl.

Call some local churches and see if they have any one they know. Find out where the poorest neighborhoods are and find them that way. Call the Salvation Army, Let them know and see what they say. You also have people who have lost there jobs, and are down and out. Hope that helps.

Look for homeless shelters and other such charities and volunteer to work with them from time to time.

I'd find it especially rewarding to go and find a homeless shelter and spend time playing with the kids there - it will really lift their spirits!
