I receive calls, often from automated answering machines, saying "You've won... a vacation to the Carribbeans, or an all inclusive spa at some resort, or a family trip of four to Disney World...etc." How can I know if they are legititmate and legal?
How can I tell if they're not phone scammers?

When you received such calls, did you ever get the prize? What happened?

I've received 300 phone calls like these in 3 months -- that's about 2 or 3 per day. Is there anyway I could prevent or even stop these kinds of phonecalls?

this society, like most is based around work but why is it that so many people are bitter about being required to work? there is no legal obligation to work and work reduces social problems - it is therefore a good thing so why the bitterness?

Recently, our church has done a series on miracles and the power of prayer. Well, I've been praying for the strength and perseverance to lose weight. I've been over 60 pounds overweight for quite some time. Anyway, I prayed about this all the time...all day. Everytime I wanted to eat something. I felt frusterated, but I know I was cutting back on the amount of food I was normally eating. On top of that, I have been making a point of going out and really playing with my kids (running, tag, walks, etc). OK, so here's my question....I know weight loss isn't instant. I don't expect to wake up 68 pounds lighter tomorrow (though it'd be nice). And I know God doesn't always answer prayers. BUT, in the past few weeks, I gained 7 pounds which puts me at my heaviest ever. I feel exhausted. I'm frusterated. Could someone who believes in miracles and prayer and God please help me to not get discouraged. What's happening?

As far back as there are records humans have believed in a god and prayed to a god. Theological evidence shows that most religions actually pray to the Sun. Even the Abrahamic religions i.e Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Watch the movie zeitgeist to see what i mean. What if the Earth is a living organism with a spiritual consciousness? What if we humans evolved from the Earth? What if the Earth instilled into us this consciousness to praise the Sun for the life giving energy that it transmits to the Earth? Without the Sun life as we know it would not be possible!

So I decided that I am going to make a sleeping pill becasue Narcissus made people faint... But I have absolutely no clue what to call it. My friend wants me to call it "Narcissus Night-Night Pills" but I really don't think that that is A+ material. Any suggestions?

The argument would run something like this:

1) Evolution predicts we should all be heterosexual.
2) We're not all heterosexual.
3) Homosexuals must have been designed.
4) There must be a designer (i.e. God).

OK, so the first premise doesn't work, and point 3 is a bit of a non sequitur... but it's no worse than plenty of other arguments on this kind of topic. And yet we never hear fundies say, 'My son is a homosexual, and if that ain't the strongest evidence for the existence of Almighty God, I don't know what is!'

Why not? What am I missing?

My husband and I were raised in diffrent beliefs. Church is very important to us, and we want a strong spirtual family enviorment for our kids. Unfortuantly neither of us know very much about other religions outside of the ones we were raised in. Any info would be helpful, about any religion, I just named the ones I could think of off the top of my head.

The bible says he is described as an angel of light.
Or a master at deception. doesn't it also say that he controls the governments of the world?
So do the wicked angels divide up the countries and say you can rule here and I will rule there. and it is the wicked angels who cause wars. My people against your people? Kind of thing? or are humans really that cruel on their own?

Our department is going to dinner for meeting our year-end goals. They are going to take us to a very expensive restaurant. After looking at the menu online I don’t see anything that I would want that’s less than $30 to $40. It’s a steakhouse so they have seafood, steaks and salads. I will more than likely want a seafood dish or a steak. The thing is EVERYTHING is outrageously priced on the menu. The side dishes are like $7 each. I am pretty sure the company will also be paying for cocktails.

Hello,

I am Catholic and was having a discussion with a good friend of my who is a born-again Christian evangelical. He kept insisting that the Bible -- and only the Bible -- is the sole source of Christian teaching. However, in the Catholic Church we also recognize that Tradition plays a central role in Christian teaching; St. Paul himself wrote, "So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter. [2 Thess. 2:15]"

Additionally, it seems odd to contend that the Bible alone can be used for the transmission of Christian teaching -- after all, the first several generations of the Early Church did not have a Bible; they had to rely primarily on the oral traditions handed down to them by their predecessors.

I'm curious to know other people's thoughts, especially those like my friend who contend that the Bible is the sole source of teaching.

Have a Merry Christmas!

Is there a term, or terms, for people who believe fully in a religion (any religion) but disagree with it?
For instance, if someone accept that Christianity is truth, and fully believe in God, Moses, Jesus, etc - but for some reason chooses to dislike those they are supposed to worship? I don't mean if someone worships the Devil, just simply a rejection of religious convention on grounds of morality rather than disbelief?

We all know that the Jewish Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD, and that this was foretold by Jesus? Right? Christians, we all agree on this?

Okay: Here is my question: Where is the destruction of the Temple by the Romans recorded in the Bible?

Oooh oooh, Mr. Kotter, can I answer? The answer is: ITS NOT !!
Why? Because NOT EVERYTHING PERTAINING TO THE CHRISTIANS FAITH IS FOUNF IN THE BIBLE. "Sola Scriptura" is a false tradition of MEN which nullifies the word of God.

(Pretty good, eh?)

If your company did a gift exchange for the amount of $20.00 and it was you the one that had to buy something for your General Manager or Boss, which we know they earn way more than you , so to those of you that have heard of ROSS, if you bought their gift there, it was a Perry Ellis Dress shirt but... it was one size big and he asked you where you bought it, do you think he would ge offended by knowing where it was bought? I mean ROSS has a lot of well known brands and if you think that the most you could have spent was $20.00. He is a very religious person too. Do you think he would feel ofended by knowing where it was bought? Im sure I wouldnt.

Please dont joke about it.
