I receive calls, often from automated answering machines, saying "You've won... a vacation to the Carribbeans, or an all inclusive spa at some resort, or a family trip of four to Disney World...etc." How can I know if they are legititmate and legal?
How can I tell if they're not phone scammers?

When you received such calls, did you ever get the prize? What happened?

I've received 300 phone calls like these in 3 months -- that's about 2 or 3 per day. Is there anyway I could prevent or even stop these kinds of phonecalls?

It's usually a time share sales pitch. You have to go to a seminar where they give you the hard squeeze to try to sell you a time share condo somewhere. Don't fall for it. We did once and wasted a whole day trying to get out of there. They do give you the prize, but only after they've called numerous sales managers and people over to try to get you to relent and sign up. It takes awhile, too. But they did give us the voucher for the hotel to disneyworld. We never went, though. So, it was just a big waste of our time.

You can tell any telemarketer not to call you and to put you on their do not call registry. If they contact you again, you can report them and get some money. I can't remember all the details, but just tell them not to call anymore.

If you haven't entered any sort of contest, do you really think some random call is going to give you something that good?
