My husband and I were raised in diffrent beliefs. Church is very important to us, and we want a strong spirtual family enviorment for our kids. Unfortuantly neither of us know very much about other religions outside of the ones we were raised in. Any info would be helpful, about any religion, I just named the ones I could think of off the top of my head.

I realize that these are all the same basic religion, I have not been exsposed to diffrent varities of the same faith. I am diffinatly interested in all faiths. I really just need some facts so I have somewhere to start. I don't want to just open the phonebook and drop into the first church I come to. I want to know what I am getting myself into first. And since I wasn't raised in any of these churches I have no idea what they believe. I just need any info about ANY faith, please.

They are all Trinitarian Christian Churches
They all are related by professing the Nicene Faith
Catholics, Methodists and Baptists are all Christian churches.

Methodists (through the Anglican) and the Baptists (through the Anglican and Congregational or Independents) are descended from the Catholic Church.

The Baptists (as distinct from 16th cent Anabaptists) began in the 17th century. The Methodists come from the Wesleyan Evangelical revival movement of the later 18th century.

The Baptists and Methodists are Protestant and both profess salvation by faith alone by grace alone and doctrine from the Bible alone. T he Methodists tend to be more liturgical the Baptists but they both share much (in the states) of the same "frontier" revivalist tradition.

Methodists baptize babies and Baptists emphasize believers' baptism(age of reason, not babies). Methodists have bishops and Baptists do not. Baptists hold to congregational church structure with the local church as the highest authority. Catholics have a universal or world -wide church structure(Pope, bishops of dioceses, etc).

Methodists have an adaptation of the Anglican 39 Articles and Baptists are 'non confessional' but they do often actually follow the New Hampshire Confession other doctrinal statements of faith. The Catholic Church is very creedal and its teachings can be found in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
Like the Orthodox Churches but unlike the Methodist and Baptist and most Protestant Churches( which tend to have only the 2 sacraments or ordinances of baptism and Communion) the Catholic Church has 7 Sacraments,a long traditon of sacred visual art, invocation of the saints,Eucharistic adoration of the Lord and many practices not shared with them by Baptists and Methodists

Catholics and Methodists uphold free will. Methodists ,except for many Welsh Methodists, are Arminian, free will upholders and some Baptists are Calvinists, who reject free will, like Particular or Reformed Baptists.

Some Baptists ,even non Calvinist ones, maintain that once one is savedone can never be lost, which most methodists and all catholics reject.

I'm a Baptist, so I hope I can give you a little info, all though I'm only 14 so I couldn't tell you as much as say my pastor. The one thing Baptists have in common is the belief of Christianity. We believe that God is who He said He is, He was born on earth, died on the cross, and was risen 3 days later, and is now in heaven waiting for His return. There are different types of Baptists, my church is more of a southern Baptist, which is like what I just told you, and there are other "versions" of Baptism of which I'm not too familiar with, but they all believe the same thing when you get down to it. Hope I helped.

In mainstream non-Catholic denominations in the US:

If you want a break from the concept of original sin and a focus on google John Wesley and his ideas of "inner light". Disciples of Christ (American denomination) is also worth a look if you want a place where people of different beliefs (regarding dogma and interpretation) can find common ground.

This is a quality resource featuring descriptions of many religions:

EDIT: Clarification of the good answer below: "Sprinkling" of infants in Methodism is not the same as baptism. There's no "saving" taking place. It is not necessary and focuses on the parent's and congregation's spiritual support for the child. Baptism takes place by choice by teens and adults.

Strictly speaking the belief systems you've mentioned are all part of the Christian "religion" but these each represent divisions in Christs church, this does not please God and neither does it glorify Him. My advice is to pray that God will help you find a church that is alive in the power of God's Spirit, has solid bible based teaching and preaching and good fellowship.

Perhaps like mine it will be non-denominational.

Are you sure? It's likely the first few hits are only about dolls (even those might have links on the pages themselves). You could try adding the word 'religion' to your search. Or do searches for African and or Carribean religion. You might try trolling around on universtity anthropology sites.

Go to one of those Mardell type of "christian-marts". They have all of the poop on those poopish sects.

Read your bible. We are to follow the Messiah, and He doesn't inhabit ANY of the denominational whore-houses. If you are seeking the truth, He (the Almighty) will show it to you. If you're just looking for a place to go on the "venerable day of the sun", then they are all the same. Worthless.

methodists, Baptists and Catholics are are parts of the Christian Faith, but each denomination is different. i would suggest visiting churches on different sundays, and ask them about thier mission statement. if thier mission statement doesn't match up with the BIble, you shouldn't go there
