no, crusader, i'm saying you beset them so much that when monotheism fails, atheists might still be [perhaps rightfully] antagonistic toward religion. don't pat yourself on the back too quickly.

Yes... when the rapture happens and all the damn fundies are gone the atheists and pagans will prance joyfully through meadows full of wildflowers in slow motion.

I personally think that atheists and pagans on here are a good representative of what it would be like. We don't tend to get embroiled in bitter debates with one another. Pagans generally tend to want to know what science has to offer, and we don't argue with evolution or other scientific discovery. We also don't proselytize and we accept all positive paths as valid for the adherent. Atheists tend to hang out with us, and while we may not agree on spiritual points, we certainly don't get hung up on them. We pagans don't try to pass laws that would impose our beliefs on others and neither do the atheists.. so, all in all.. I think we'd do just fine.

We did for many millennia, until the scourge of monotheism arose several thousand years ago. Before then, we believed in whatever we wished, or in nothing at all. Then the know it all single god believers felt it necessary to push their beliefs upon the rest of us, causing widespread misery, wars and pestilence. The absurdity is that some of those monotheists worship several gods. Christians worship Jesus and God and most importantly status and money. Catholics worship all of those, plus numerous saints and Mary, mother of Jesus. Muslims worship allah, plus mohammed, the prophet even though they will deny that. So true monotheism seems to be restricted to judeism, except they like money more than god also. Just my personal observations, though.

The Atheists would continue to think Pagans are insane and the Pagans would continue not caring.

All in all a peaceful coexistence (with some bickering) would ensue.

Pagans in general are fairly tolerant of allowing other groups to do whatever they like, without interference. (At least modern pagans are).

So, if pagan religions were the dominant darkside to atheism's lightside, as long as pagans didn't try to introduce mandatory Gaia worship into science class, or something, they'd coexist pretty quietly.

Or maybe it's human nature that forces humans to exert control over their fellows and an ideology is a means of exerting that control. Atheism is a freedom from ideology whereas paganism is an ideology, so I think the Pagans would try to exert control over the atheists. And since that roughly 20% of the population are atheist reamins constant, Pagans would become the new Christians and Muslims. Solution? Well, you don't want to hear my solution - it's pretty radical.

I think so. pagans tend to not care one way or the other if you dont agree with them as long as you let them do there thing, also most pagans are not oposed to learning and knowledge and thus dont oppose the scientific bent of the athiest movement

I think atheists can coexist with anyone that does not try to pass their religious laws over them.

i think that we would get along pretty much the same way we do now.

i like the science and mystery thing...all science began as a mystery. they will always co-exist.
