It is the sound of the words or the meaning of the words that has spiritual power?

I have noticed that when I say words like "Love" and "Peace" I get an increase of those feelings....

What made it so special? Did you go somewhere to visit
someone? Or did someone come to visit your family that was
special to you? Or was it something you never dreamed you'd
get, and did get after all? Or maybe you had a rare White
Christmas you'd only dreamed about?

I'm a little confused. People are playing "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music around the holidays, but it doesn't talk about Christmas, and the movie isn't Christmas related... has the song somehow been co-opted as if it were talking about Christmas presents?

Many of us has held onto one special toy or item that meant
enough that we have kept it, rather pristine for maybe even
our lifetimes. Do you have anything that special? I had a big
doll, that I put into my parents attic. And discovered one day
its' legs and feet had rotted LOL.

I guess if someones whole family truely believed there was no god then they might not celebrate the Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord, but just say maybe it was a kid in the family. Would they celebrate the Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord, because without Jesus and God there would be no the Feast of the Circumcision of Our Lord, so y would they even bother to celebrate it?

This has been happening to me a lot when I am going shopping at the mall. I'll go into the store and there will be one person or two people in front of me, and one at the register. Meanwhile there are four other cashiers not at the register who are just putting on nailpolish, eating, talking on their cell phone. Then when you do go the cash register they act like they are doing you a favor by ringing you up. How do they hire people like this is it just me?

Okay...my mom is a kinda'/quasi Christian. I'm atheist. She knows that I'm atheist.

She goes to church regularly, it seems (she went tonight, in fact), and while I can't speak certainly about her own personal beliefs and interpretations of Bible doctrine, I believe she believes in the classic (or at least prevalent) idea of Hell being a place of eternal torment for those that don't believe in Jesus/YHVH/thewholepackage and repent. While you and I know Hell is actually the grave (or Sheol in Hebrew), and despite the many Christians that actually know this, many Christians still believe in eternal torment. After all, Rev 14:9-11 and Jesus' parable of Lazarus and the rich man seem to indicate such a possibility.

Ultimately, however, she believes it, and I think she may be worried about me. I love my mom and even though I don't agree with her beliefs, she's happy, so I wouldn't want to change that. But I don't want her to spend the next 10, 20, 30, etc. years of her life worrying.

For the past 3 years me, my sis, brother and Mom take a vacation at Christmastime.

We all pay for ourselves. My Mom wants to charge the $1300 vacation on her credit card, then she tells me she owes $18,000 on that card and has $4.000 left.. I told her this is crazy she needs the vacation money to pay off her debt not take a vacation.. I cant pay for her since im just of college an making it scarsely on my own with a $55K salary.., my brother makes alot of money but never pays for anyone..he makes $200K my sis is still in college.
My Mom insists we go because my brother will feel bad if we dont go on vacation, I said i think it makes no sense since she owes so much money.. and on vacation you spend money..

Do you agree im right?
