A corporate gift as in "Here's a mouse pad from BJK Holdings". No, other than the person (if there is one) who's handing it to you. A gift from your own company as a Christmas bonus or as recognition for job well done? No, other than if they hand it to you. If it is from your boss or supervisor? Technically, no, unless it is from their own pocket (which it never is), but it's wise to pretend it was actually from them (they control the budget) and say "thanks" next time you see them. Under no circumstances should you send a card, email or letter in response to a corporate gift - you'll look like a wally. Unless it's large and valuable, in which case ring whoever's receptionist and say "I received the gift - it's great".

In all honesty, I'd take the time to do a "thank you" note or at least a card. It might seem fussy and old fashioned but your boss will remember who thanked him/her and who didn't. With the card/note you're not only thanking him/her but you're giving a reminder of thanks. I know it's just playing at office politics but can make things smoother for you in the long run.

*Someone* went to the trouble of organising and maybe even wrapping the gifts and preparing the cards.
It's better to say 'thank you' than not ~ and almost as easy.
At the next staff meeting, the office christmas party or wherever, say 'thanks' to your boss ~ s/he'll appreciate it, and then try to find the person who did the actual work involved and let them know their labour was appreciated.
It never hurts to let someone know their work is appreciated, and it sets you apart from the numbskulls who take without giving even a little courtesy in return.

Showing any kind of appreciation is never bad, remember that whoever had the attention of giving you that detail would like to be thanked as well.
It doesn't need to be formal, being casual to thank your superior would be more appropiate.

Well you do not need to write a "thank you note" since it's not personal (everybody got same gift, right?)
But you could say thanks to your boss or whoever is above him if have a chance.
