admit his doubts, or will it take them with him to the grave?

2007-12-04 08:21:59 · 9 answers · asked by Anonymous in Other - Society & Culture

To summarize the argument:

"Atheists often claim that the only way for theists to justify their belief is to provide evidence that rationally demostrates God's existence. But many of our most basic beliefs can't be 'justified' in this way. The reliability of our memories, our sense perception, the existence of other minds are examples of beliefs that we take for granted. Belief in God fits into this category of reasonable assumptions."

Atheists, how would you respond to this argument?

would you realize that his body actually did not go up into heaven as it has been taught from the bible, and thus consider the possibility that perhaps jesus was not god? or would you say anyone who believed that jesus' body actually rose into heaven were taking the bible out of context?

My supervisor sent an email around to everyone in the office anouncing that another attorney got engaged this weekend. I feel like that is info for the groom-to-be to announce. I feel like my supervisor is trying to steal some of the spot light in a strange way.

Am I just over thinking this or does it seem rude?

I know if I shared with a colleague that I was engaged, I wouldn't want he or she to tell the whole office -- I would like to be the one, if I wanted everyone to know.

Were they just sitting around waiting for scientific evidence, or did most of them consider it to be a myth. Did someone actually have to carry a water sample to the White House and say "yes, it is indeed rain, we have carbon 14ed it, it is happening now."

For those of you who want to take this question seriously, do so at your own risk.

Im Black but alot of people i know say i act white and some even call me white and I feel insulted when they say it. Most of the time its just friends joking around. But you know when someone is joking but there still serious. Plus alot of people from my old schools told me i acted white and this makes me feel bad. Whats the point of individuality if you have to act a certain way just because of your skin color.

I recently read a wonderful mythological story from a Greek poet called Ovid. In it his story sounded similar to a story in the bible. Since this was written prior or during the time of the story of the destruction of Sodom and Gamorrah, could this be the same story but rewritten to use as a "bible" story? Ovids story uses a great flood similar to Noahs to destroy the village but the analagies of the destruction told in the bible of Sodom and Gamorrah If so, which one would be the "true" story? If Ovids story was written first and considered a myth and the similar story the bible truth, then what is the real story? You decide.

And please, do not preach or quote scripture, I know the bible and several other texts so no need to remind me. I want to see if you can see the similarities and make your comments to such.
Thank you

Here's my observation of the present state of affairs:

Christian says: "My God is the ONLY true God because my religious book says so".
He is right.

Muslim says: "My God is the ONLY true God because my religious book says so".
He is a fundamentalist and a possible terrorist.

Why is it like that? Need your comments please.
