well its not recomended, it'll all start with the intention of the "spread the message of islam", than it'll come to the actual chat, than progress towards "personal talk" than become friends, than become best friends, and so on until u realize you'v been a vitim of shaytan

ever heard the hadith that when theres a guy and a girl alone in a closed room, the third person is shaitan

No; its the result is not important- its the means by which you gain it. There is a Hadeeth that the zina of the tongue is talking to (basically) the opposite gender. It is not allowed because the Quraan says and don't come near zina. [17:23]

People often bring up this argument "Oh, its for the sake of Islam." It doesn't matter, because the method by which you are doing it is haraam. So the whole act is haraam.

YES of course what's wrong with that. They are chatting about something useful. They are not doing something haraam.
And for the saying, "a woman and a man together alone, the third of them is Satan" When you mention Allah Satan escapes right? So if those two are talking about Islam, they will mention Allah at least once and this means they are a lone and Satan is not the third. See logic. That was my proof, how is that?

Peace

Well, I don't really appreciate this idea. What ever we talk at forums or like Here, its fine as its a general discussion and every other person could read it. Sometimes we send emails to one another being revolving around the subject. I think thats fine this far. But starting Chatting, like on instant messengers for the sake of discussing etc etc .. I don't think so its really wise. but if you believe that you are strict enough to focus on the Islamic talks only, then thats fine I guess. Be straight fwd. Even i message others sometimes, to discuss and its my habit of writing Lolz or smiling,,, but just now 1 hr back I was thinking of avoiding it too in the personal messages,, but thats Me~!

EDIT: Mohammad, brother its not allowed I mean it would be better if you do not chat with the person of opp. sex about here n there. it would be wrong as that could lead you on other tracks. Chatting is something different from being on the conversation which is to reveal something better and good for both the parties. In chatting you will freely laugh with her, discuss this n that, music might come in, i mean,, how could you think that would be allowed hmm? If you believe you would remain in the limits, will not talk anything else other than Islam and may be career. then its up to you,, but I believe Chatting on messengers freely, isn't wise. If you already like someone, then you can def. know more about him, promising yourself that you will send her a proposal. Otherwise I will never appreciate it.

Rest Allah knows the best~!

I think it is okay. In view of your name is Mohammad, you probably a muslim, you are allowed to chat or even marry to any girl you wanted. You haven't violated the muslim law.

Yes, they can.
Because our Prophet, Nabi Muhammad SAW was spreading Islam by Dak'wah. So, he's not talking to men only, right?
Another is when the Aqabah II happened, there's men and women who gave their word to embrace Islam and help Nabi Muhammad out., right?
So, thats the proof. :))
