Then why are there so many wealthy T.V. evangelists lliving like kings? They live in mansions, eat the best food, drive the nicest cars and basically live like there's no tomorrow. And the worst part about it is that they collect money from some of the poorest people in America. Yes, I know we're all personally accountable to God, but isn't this a bit absurd?

I called my friend last night to ask her if she wanted to get together today to go shopping. She told me she was already supposed to go shopping with her mother and would be busy most of the day. I took it that she wanted the alone time with her mom and so made plans for myself and did my own thing. Later today (around 3 or so) she calls me and I was hanging out with this guy I like so I told her that I would call her later. I got home about 6 and called her back. She was real distant and seemed to have really short answers for my questions. She was not the ordinarily happy go lucky person. I asked her what was wrong and she went on to say some stuff about her mom and that she was worried about her and just asked me about my day. As I was explaining where I was she buts in and says she has to go. When I hung up she called right back. I was a bit confused because when I said hello I could hear her talking to her husband on the other end and then she hung up again.

I know understand that me (now and SDA) and atheists have one thing in common, we don't like annoying "christians" that shove pagan doctrines such "eternal torment in hell" down people's throats.

Many in Sudan are calling for the death of the British teacher, now in jail because her students (all Muslims from Muslim famiiies) gave a fictional teddy bear a religious name. Imagine how Christians would react if a fictional bear were named peter or paul. Oh, horror. Surely we would all be in the street calling out for justice and enraged. NOT. When will Christians wake up to the fact that we are the good guys in an otherwise evil world. Can we ever have a meaningful dialogue with these people who scream for blood everytime they feel insulted. Why are they not insulted by their own foolishness and evil behaviors directed at good people? Did not that British teacher leave her own comfort to go over there to help those people? Where will it all end?

To facilitate explanation, it may be well to state what an indulgence is not. It is not a permission to commit sin, nor a pardon of future sin; neither could be granted by any power. It is not the forgiveness of the guilt of sin; it supposes that the sin has already been forgiven. It is not an exemption from any law or duty, and much less from the obligation consequent on certain kinds of sin, e.g., restitution; on the contrary, it means a more complete payment of the debt which the sinner owes to God. It does not confer immunity from temptation or remove the possibility of subsequent lapses into sin. Least of all is an indulgence the purchase of a pardon which secures the buyer's salvation or releases the soul of another from Purgatory. The absurdity of such notions must be obvious to any one who forms a correct idea of what the Catholic Church really teaches on this subject.

I understand that businessmen have to make a living and that there is no crime in becoming rich but is it right to sell religion? Better yet, are we wrong for buying it? Who put the price tag on religion such as how much a bible cost or reviewing church members gross salary for tithes? Is it right to become rich off of religion just because you can?

myself and some other students from my high school want to raise money for a business in our communtiy called hospice of the valley. it's kinda like a hospital but it's for termanly ill paitents. they stay at the hospice house when their family's can no longer give them the care they need to feel comfortable as they pass away. its a really good place and the services they provide are all paid for my health insurance or by hospice themselves. we want to raise money for them - but not in your average spaghetti dinner way - we want to do something diffrent and unique to help. any ideas?
