Why is it that so many Christians, Muslims, etc, assume that Atheists or Agnostics are hapless, angry, presumptuous, and consciousless people with no future they look forward to and who care for nothing but themselves? Other than question your beliefs, what have they as an organized group done that would make you think this?

Can you not sympathize with why people might find it hard to believe in God as a result of what organized religion has caused for humanity?

I come only to get an understanding. I truly want to know.

Personally, I don't believe in aliens.
Movies in the 50's portrayed them as dominating war-like creatures who were either going to eat us, or enslave us.
Movies after the 70's have portrayed them as kind, gentle creatures trying to teach us to stop warring, killing our rain forests, or whatever.

So it could go either way. Would you take the risk?

For those who say they want God brought back into schools, into the government, etc....

Hypothetically, let's say that happened. Tomorrow, the US Government announces that we are now a theocracy, that prayer in school is mandatory, religious law supercedes secular law, etc. You get the idea.

How would you react if this happened, but it wasn't YOUR god? Or perhaps it was the same god you worship, but the mandated religious doctrine didn't jive with the doctrine YOU follow?

Would you father a child for a lesbian couple?

No sex involved, just the passing over of your sperm, which would be inserted via a turkey baster into one of them.

No physical contact at all, and only a handshake as a contract.

I've been asked to do this, and as my wife and I are struggling to have kids I am quite keen on the idea (I'm 37, if that helps).

Obviously my wife is unaware of this, and will remain that way.

ok so i was wondering i don't go to church no more i use to but when i went i was saved and loved going to church didn't wanna miss a day but now that all this stuff is coming around being the end and stuff i understand that its gonna happen but i was wondering if i pray every single night for forgiveness of what i have sinned and read the bible and stuff will god accept me through heaven when the time comes to take all his people away or should i start going back to church and putting him my heart more than he is i mean i read alot of stuff on him and i want him to be my lord and savior and i have faith in him i no some stuff about him were he died on the cross for our sins and they turnt water into wine and stuff my brain just don't go right on remembering alot of stuff but i wanna come closer to god what should i do i asked for forgiveness and i read the bible does that mean god will still accept me if i dont' go to church please help me

From 1-7, where do you think you stand on the probability spectrum of the existence of god...?

1.Strong theist. 100% probability of god. In other words "I do not believe, I KNOW"

2.Very high probability but short of 100%. "I cannot know for certain, but I strongly believe in god and live my life on the assumption that he is there."

3.Higher than 50% but not very high. Technically agnostic but leaning toward theism. "I am very uncertain, but I am inclined to believe in god."

4.Exactly 50%. Completely impartial agnostic. "God's existence and non-existance are exactly equiprobable."

5.Lower than 50% but not very low. Technically agnostic but leaning towards atheism. "I don't know whether god exists but I'm inclined to be sceptical."

6.Very low probability, but short of zero. "I cannot know for certain, but I think god is very improbable, and I live my life on the assumption that he is not there."

7.Strong atheist. "I KNOW there is no god."



I am somewhere between 6 and 7.
