If you are italian for example, but move to england and eventually speak english, do you still think in your own language or in english ?

I guess this is mostly depending on how you're fluent in your not native,second language. I'm Italian and when I was younger my second language was French, I was rather fluent and the best I was grasping it the more I was thinking in French. Now in these last years it has changed since English has become my second language and, particularly when I speak or read it, I'm currently thinking in English while I've stopped thinking in French. Therefore I suppose this has nothing to do with the place you're living (I've never lived for a longtime outside of Italy) but just on the fluency's level of your second or third language.

I'm Mexican and I think in Spanish all the time, so if I gonna say something in English for example,I think it in Spanish then I have to translate it into English "in my mind" before I can speak it. If you talk to me in English I receive it in my brain in English but then my brain translate it into Spanish In order to understand you. Basically, my brain have to look for the equivalence of a English word to a Spanish word and vice verse. I hope this help you.

I'm Salvadorean, speak Spanish and think in Spanish most of the time. I moved to the US and now i speak English

Abroad, preserve your accessory however now not your dialect. When writing papers, use "formal ordinary English". When asking questions about Yahoo! Answers, write in FORMAL STANDARD ENGLISH (which means use the spell checker). if you spent several years in England and forgot about your home country you may think in English...
