Of course we have Boxing day, we (Queen Vic) invented it!
Thanksgiving comes and goes in the UK without a mention. I only know of thanksgiving from the old Tom and Jerry cartoons otherwise I am completely ignorant as to what it is. I do know it's thanking god for something but what I neither know nor care.
But as I like Americans, I hope you all have a nice thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to all our American friends! Here in the UK we may not have an official day for Thanksgiving but we have given a lot of thought to all the things and people we are grateful for and have given "Thanks" for them all.
It came as a surprise that in America there is no Boxing Day!

Thank you, Shan. It is a very special day for Americans--our only real feast day, which is unique to us. I work with 9 Native American tribes and they have numerous feast days, but this is the ones for all Americans to give thanks for our lives. No matter what is happening to us individually or as a nation, we can always find a reason for gratitude. This week has been filled with occasions to remember and think about gratitude for many of us through food drives, contibutions to charities or gatherings of remembrance. President Abraham Lincoln first established a national day of Thanksgiving and my wife and I will be feeding several single friends and a bunch of college students who have no home to go to for the day.
I've always regreted we do not have Boxer's Day in the U.S., but we do stretch Christmas out from Dec 25th to January 2nd with parties, vacations, and just plain quiet time. Thank you for remembering us--another reason for me to be grateful today.

Thank you so much for your kind wishes. I have many things to be thankful for, including wonderful new friends here.
I hope you have a happy day even if it isn't Thanksgiving there.

The day after Christmas many people go to the stores for sales, but it's to crowded for me.

Thanks for the salutation. But what is Boxing Day? That's with
the Boxer Rebellion, I think, right? Now I've forgotten what
that's all about, so maybe I'll have to 'google' it to remember.
The day after Christmas, is the day some people take down
their Christmas trees. Other than that, it isn't anything we
celebrate further. Some people leave their trees up til after
New Years Day as well. It depends on the family custom or
how lazy we are LOL.

I was on holiday in Ottawa, Canada, when they had their Thanksgiving Day last month. It was lovely to hear strangers on the street wishing you "Happy Thanksgiving". Im sure its the same in the USA . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . and just in case I should forget, "Happy St Patricks Day" (17th March) from the folks here in Ireland.

Thanks Shan! Since you don't celebrate Thanksgiving in your country, I will eat an extra portion of turkey and all the fixings for you. I hope that you have a good day.
